About Collegiate Peaks

Collegiate Peaks Campground is located 11 miles west of Buena Vista, Colorado, along Middle Cottonwood Creek near the top of Cottonwood Pass. The campground offers well-spaced campsites and scenic views of the surrounding mountains. Visitors enjoy fishing and exploring local trails. A commercial hot springs inn and spa is located about 5 miles east of the campground. "First come, first served" does not necessarily mean that the site will be available when you get there. Someone may get there before you. This is a popular campground and is normally full starting on Friday, sometimes as early as Thursday, so plan accordingly.

Nice large sites at this campground with good separation from your neighbors. If you're camping in a van, I found the parking spots to be a little unlevel, but relatively easily correctible with some wheel blocks. Not all of the sites have bear boxes and I wish the recreation.gov site specified which sites did. The camp hosts were great!
The water from the pumps was brown. Looked gross, but people were using it for something. I'm glad we brought our own drinking water.

I love this campground and almost always plan to stay at least a couple nights on any summer trip to Colorado. Staying close to the creek is a plus. Overall, the campground has nice big sites, it's relatively quiet and well maintained. I will be back soon.

Great site! Loved the river, the cleanliness of the camp and the respectful neighbors. The camp hosts were so nice and were doing a great job. Organized and friendly stop. Firewood was available. Bathrooms were very clean. Lots of hummingbirds. July 2024

Very quiet and calm campground. Site B had a great sound of the river, but was short walk to actually be able to see it. Good privacy and space between sites A-C. Zero cell service just FYI.

Gorgeous area with nearly nonstop sounds of hummingbirds. The site itself was large and spaced a good distance away from other sites. Lots of shade as well. Road noise was annoying, but didn't ruin our experience. Hiking trails close by, but recommend driving to them.
