I was late on arrival, but they had my camp site marked and reserved. Beautiful campground nestled in the pines. Enjoyed a beautiful sunset and a more beautiful sunrise. I personally just needed a "safe" place to camp on my road trip as it was a solo trip. I felt very comfortable and it was so very very quiet and peaceful. The camp spaces were very nice, firepit, etc.

I will be venturing into this neighborhood again as IT IS VERY BEAUTIFUL! If you like Ponderosa Pines, this is the place to go.

My brother and I planned a trip out to Alvarado because of it's proximity to Westcliff/Silvercliff, and because of the fact that these towns have been rated as "Dark Sky Communities". I wanted to catch the peak of the perseids meteor showers. We got there just at dusk on a friday night, the sun was already behind the mountains, and we found a first come first served site in a great spot. Each campsite has fabulous terracing, a firepit (like a really good one with cast irons sides) and a picnic table. The bathrooms are nearby to most all sites, RV's are welcome, and there's water spigots all over the place. There is a site manager at spot #8, but when we tried to go to him for for firewood at about 9pm, the place was dark, so we went into town. EVERYTHING is closed by 8pm. No firewood. We thought there would be a fire ban because of all the fires, so we didn't bring any wood. We were gonna be screwed until we came up on an Amish family at Westcliff Meats, closing up the shop, I think. We asked if they knew where to get any wood and the man of the house took us 'round back and gave a big box full of scraps from his woodworkings! We got back to the site and had the fire going til after 2am, a good 4-5 hours worth. He was a lifesaver! We saw probably 40-50 shooting stars, and the campground was dead quite by midnight. Even before that, there was only a little bit of rowdiness from one area, really it was nothing out of the ordinary. This campground is BEAUTIFUL, and the drive in is breath-taking. The Wet Mountains are so pretty and the big valley before them is just awesome. 5 stars!

Beautiful area and easy access. Some sites are hard to level the RV and have steep slopes to picnic tables and fire rings.

Nice hikes nearby.

I would return.
