WP Franklin is a often overlooked gem campground. Yes, there are just 31 sites, however ALL of them are right on the water of the Caloosahatchee River at the Corp of Engineers operated lock enabling waterway navigation to or from the Atlantic/Gulf side. The campground is also unique in that the ACTUALLY recycle waste containers be they plastic, aluminum, glass or paper/cardboard. It's a BIG deal for the environment! The other nice part of the campground is a large open area right down the center of the isthmus. It becomes clear that this is unused for camping since the septic drain fields for the restroom-showers is beneath the open grass area. This is also environmentally friendly so as to prevent runoff into the river ecosystem. Try WP Franklin and you won't regret it. Highly recommended.
