Salt Springs Recreation Area

We were excited to see new staff/management. The staff was very friendly but still enforced the rules. They were extremely helpful and shared info on improvements they plan to make. We have camped there for 15 plus years and loved the park. Glad we gave it another chance! We were considering not to because of staff issues last couple of visits.

We have been camping here for 20 years at least. It’s gone way down hill. First of all they had more that 20 available walk up sites, we asked if we could switch to one in the shade because the one we booked was full sun and we had no idea. We were told no then they would be stuck with our site ( even tho I booked sites become walk up sites online anyways) . The spring only had one entrance now that is so covered with algae that my son slipped and multiple full grown adults slipped in just the few days we were there. When we asked why aren’t they scrubbing it they said it just comes back . I could barely get out holding our baby, it’s an extreme hazard . Now there is fences everywhere by the spring and the boat ramp consists of chunks of concrete, terrible. For how expensive it is here this was our last time .

Camped in June and the spring was amazing. The sites are clean and it's easy in and out. We will be back next June.

Salt Springs Recreation Area is part of the Ocala National Forest. The RV sections are all full hook-up. The pads are paved and level with may site having large pines or oaks providing shade. Well separated from the campground are the springs. The springs have about 4 vents pushing a lot of 74 degree water. The spring swimming area is mostly level with a depth of 3 to 4 feet. It is full of fish.
Tip for Other Campers:Go and enjoy the cold spring water. Once in you will either get used to the temperature or too numb to feel it.

Well-maintained. Nice old oaks. Full hook-ups and sanitary stainless steel connections basins. Best sites are away from the occasional highway noise at the dump station. Get a shady site. Be prepared for lots of spider webs on the Bear Swamp Trail.

Our go-to place to camp.

Very nice campground and well maintained. Bath house was very clean and the spring area was beautiful as always. We paddled Juniper Springs on Friday- the water was very low and there were a lot of obstacles to go under & over. Was a fun day, but definitely not for beginning paddlers. Saturday we went to Silver Springs. Once we got past the chaos at the put-in, it was a beautiful paddle. There are motor boats on this river alongside the kayaks, canoes and paddle boards.

Always a wonderful time here. From check in the ladies at the front are phenomenal! Very nice and informative. The campsite is clean, and everything works. The bathrooms were spotless and fully stocked. The campground is clean and quiet. All the staff is wonderful here and take care of everything. The springs area is very clean and rangers are constantly patrolling ensuring safety and cleanliness.
