Ortona South Campground is praised for its beautiful location, cleanliness, and friendly, helpful staff, creating a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. Many campers enjoy watching the boats and wildlife, with stunning sunrises and sunsets enhancing their experience. We love the campground and have stayed there many times. But my only complaint this year that they close and lock the gate at 4pm it used to be at sunset.

One of the nicest campgrounds we've ever stayed at. Two weeks and no problems.
enjoyed watching the boats and yachts pass through the lock. Even saw a bald eagle fly by.

What a wonderful five days we just spent at the Ortona South COE campground! Fortunately, there were a couple of last minute cancellations, and those campers were kind enough to take the time to cancel, as opposed to just not showing up, so that someone else can have the site. The two hosts who greeted us, Vicki and Joe, were very welcoming and friendly throughout our visit. If you are fortunate enough to get a site on the water, it is such a peaceful place to relax and watch the beautiful yachts come and go, as well as enjoy a campfire toward evening. The dump station is kept clean and functions well. This was our second time camping at Ortona South, and we will definitely be returning. The U.S. Army Core of Engineers provides a wonderful service to us, and we say “thank you”!

This has become one of our favorite COE parks. The park is quiet, pieceful, relaxing and truly a wonderful place. The view you get from watching the boats pass through the locks is an added pleasure. The people working here are wonderful as are the guests.
The sites have 50 amp and water. They are paved and spacious. We are so lucky that we were able to experience this place.
Something we found quite unusual was that the park closes at 4PM and they then padlock the gate shut. Another very weird thing was the dump station. It was a huge hole in the ground with a plug in the bottom to drain it.

We always love this campground. It is clean, quiet and the perfect place to wind down after the holidays. The staff are always friendly. Normally we head out there the day after Christmas until the day after New Years. Would recommend to anyone.

We always enjoy being at ORTONA South. We use to walk or ride our bikes on the road leading into the campground but when gravel pit opened it made it too dangerous. Now we just walk the loops and get to meet other campers which is very nice. All the hosts are very nice.
