Many campers enjoy watching the boats and wildlife, with stunning sunrises and sunsets enhancing their experience. We enjoy camping in Army Corp of Engineering campgrounds. Two comments/recommendations. 1) In Florida winter, It is extremely difficult to make a reservation for 14 days in the same site. It looks like it is the right moment to expand the number of sites. 2) To add for-pay washers and dryers would make the campers life more enjoyable.

This location was very peaceful and super clean. The spaces are large and accommodating with lush grass. The bathrooms were clean but were not air conditioned. Half of the spaces were unavailable due to some kind of construction and the wooden bridge that leads to the water was closed due to damage. But honestly it was too hot to do much outside. I didn’t really understand why it said the hours of operation were until sunset, yet many times the front gate was locked by 4 pm. Also, I had thoroughly read the information about mobility vehicles for handicapped visitors (electric wheelchairs, scooter, golf cart) and it stated they were allowed for necessary transport around the park as long as the person had a handicapped placard. My husband, a medically disabled veteran, was using a golf cart to dispose of the trash at the entrance of the park when the park host chased him down and yelled at him that THOSE ARE NOT ALLOWED HERE. I explained what the website stated and she rolled her eyes and said she was going to go call her boss. She never returned to verify the final verdict so I guess they are allowed. We were not speeding or horse playing. It isn’t a huge park, but for people that have a different time walking long distances, they just want to feel normal and do every day tasks without being harassed. The park is clean and secluded. And the park host takes her job seriously, but lacked compassion and customer service. We would return if ever in the area again.

This was our third time staying at South Ortona and every time is fabulous. There’s not a lot to do there but sitting at the river and watching boats and birds is very relaxing. We will be back.

We absolutely loved our stay at this Army Corps of Engineers campground! It was everything we hoped for — quiet, peaceful, and incredibly clean. The views were stunning; we looked out over beautiful pastures and the river, and it was pure serenity.
It was the kind of place where you can just breathe a little deeper and truly relax.
We felt safe, the grounds were well maintained, and the whole experience exceeded our expectations.
We’ll most definitely be back again — already looking forward to it!
