We have been going to Ortona for about 5 years now and it’s like our second home. We love it so much. It’s so peaceful. The sunsets are so stunning. The Ranger and Joyce are so so nice and so helpful. One of the things we miss the most is the fishing pier. We are hoping it gets repaired soon. It’s taking a lot longer than we thought. The recommendations that we have are that the bathrooms are in desperate need of remodeling and the smell in the water be taken care of. The water would never have an egg smell until the last couple of times we have gone. All in all this is still our favorite campground. Anyone looking for activities or restaurants to go in the area here are a couple of recommendations. Blueberry Bunch Farm you can pick your own fresh blueberries, 7 Mares is a good Mexican restaurant, Labelle Brewery, Dollar General Market has everything you need, Pelican Snowballs has so many flavored snow cones and Two Peas has fresh baked pies.

We had a lovely time at this excellent site! Beautifully maintained grassy site right on the river, very clean, peaceful with friendly and helpful host couple also staying on site. Nice flat concrete stands with picnic tables. So interesting to watch the boats going through the massive lock, the Corps of Engineers do an amazing job of managing this powerful waterway. So quiet and peaceful, we saw lots of rabbits and different birds, two gorgeous otters, a manatee going through the lock, and lots of fish, although the site fishing pier is currently closed. However, just across the river footbridge is a nice fishing platform, very popular. This is a super site for dogs, and our Havanese Beau loved it. Several other well behaved dogs on site with their owners and of course on leashes. Owners clearly picking up well after their dogs. Some nice trees on site although most sites in the sun. The site is surrounded by farmland or preserves and isolated so seems very safe and quiet. Nice clean toilet and shower blocks, and the RV hookups are well maintained and easy to use. This is traditional RV-ing at its best, grills and fire rings available as well as a covered area for gathering or family BBQ's. The river side of the site runs down to the fast-flowing water, so caution needed for young children. No play park for children, but lots of grassy space to run around. La Belle is about 10 miles away for shops and dining. This is the perfect spot for a quiet, restful stay. Enjoy!
