Many campers enjoy watching the boats and wildlife, with stunning sunrises and sunsets enhancing their experience. Ortona is an excellent place to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Wildlife and boat watching are the two primary activities unless fishing is your objective. A bald eagle is in residence across the canal along with a variety of other fowl. There are gators and manatees in the canal along with a family of otters in the creek. The park is very clean, the sites are large and paved, and LaBelle is close enough for shopping and restaurants. There are two negatives we observed. First, nearby is a construction site where the early morning beeping of vehicles in reverse can become irritating. Second, we live in modern times where internet access is a convenient utility. Ortona provides no internet. We used our Verizon hotspot, which worked just fine but we exceeded our data allowance with our two-week stay. Adding free internet would be a real plus. We would definitely return to this park. The local staff deserves an A plus.

We stayed at this park in a 27' Travel Trailer. Getting to the park from I 75 and Fl 80 near Fort Meyers, was straight forward. Note that your GPS may call for a U-turn to enter the park but ignore that and follow the sign to the park. The campground layout consisted of 2 separate loops with power and water. Our site (1) was a back-in, level, and room enough for our truck & trailer. The site surface was a concrete pad that was very level. There is little privacy here as the sites are near each other with no shrubbery separation. There is some shade, but they are generally open. All the sites were nice, but some may prefer being next to the canal. Cell phone coverage with Verizon was great (134 mb download, 20mb upload). OTA TV had several channels, and all major networks. No Wi-Fi. The campground seemed to be full every afternoon. There a single dump stations with easy in and out. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restrooms are showing their age. The showers had limited privacy, but good water pressure, hot water and very clean. The camp hosts do a great job keeping the area tidy. Our site was clean when we arrived. Best of all was the Corps of Engineer’s price at $15 for Golden Pass holders.

The only thing to make our experience better is a laundry room. Unfortunately, the laundry room was removed from service.
