Used to be a great destination, however a lack of maintenance, closed trails, and unsanitary bathroom conditions and roach filled bear boxes have turned the former crowned jewel of Florida parks into a thing of the past.

Almost all of the trails and boardwalks were closed and in disrepair the first weekend in November 2023. It was pretty sad to see this beautiful park in this condition. Our campsite had trash in the bear box upon arrival and also trash in the firepit. It was obvious no one on staff checked the campsite before we checked in. The restrooms were out of toilet paper at least once over the weekend. There was a family with a screaming child that could be heard consistently over the weekend. We did not see any staff circling the campsites to check on anything. The swimming area was clean.

Was fun but took a while making a reservation couldn’t book for only one night had to book two , ended up at the sewage house on the property so had a poopy smell the whole time. No electric or water on that site either For the price (50$ a night ) I’m just going to go elsewhere from now on.

I’m used to camping during the week when it’s very peaceful. It was until Friday evening when large groups started arriving. It’s fun to gather together and play music and have a good time, but it’s disturbing to others. Just a heads up for people who want nighttime quiet. Don’t go on the weekend. .

The staff are friendly and professional. It would be great if the spring was accessible later than 5:30 pm. It would also be great if the boardwalks were also accessible.

Juniper Springs is a beautiful park with a great campsite, nature is absolutely beautiful. Kayak operation is not so much. Be aware that if/when you rent a kayak, you are asked to haul the kayaks down the starting point yourselves. They were quite heavy, for me and my young child. Staff at the kayak pick up location not friendly, rude if I may say. The kayak route is not for beginners. Quite a bit obstacles (fallen trees) along the way, you need to lay down flat in order to pass certain parts and continue your kayak journey. It took us 5.5 hours to complete the tour. I would not recommend large kayak on this path and I don’t recommend it with kids. Scenery was amazing.

Staff was wonderful. Clean bathrooms and park. Kayak trip is a must scary challenging in a good way. Wish the Forestry dept. Would fix the board walks.

From I-75, take Highway 40 east through Ocala and Silver Springs for approximately 36 miles to the Juniper Springs Recreation Area.
From I-95, take the Ocala/Silver Springs Exit (Highway 40) west for approximately 37 miles to the Juniper Springs Recreation Area.
From the intersection of Highway 40 and Highway 19, the campground is 4.5 miles west on Highway 40. The entrance is on the north side of Highway 40.
Juniper Springs Recreation Area is accessible via Highway 40, which connects to I-75 and I-95. It is located approximately 4.5 miles west of the intersection of Highway 40 and Highway 19.

General
- Campground gate is closed and locked from to . Campers who check-in after the gatehouse is closed must visit the Gatehouse the next morning to complete their check-in to their site. Failure to do so will lead to a 'no show' charge to your reservation and potential forfeiture of site.
- Camp sites must be occupied first night of reservation
- Each campsite can hold a MAXIMUM of 2 tents and 5 campers. Maximum 2 vehicles per site (campers included); extra vehicles must park in overflow/overnight parking area and will be charged $9 per vehicle, per night
- NO REFUNDS DUE TO WEATHER
- Generators are not allowed to run during quiet hours.
- No off-road vehicles allowed within the campground
- Bears and raccoons frequent the area; all food must be kept in approved containers. Failure to comply with this regulation can result in immediate ejection from campground without refund.
- Dogs/pets are allowed in campground only and must be leashed and supervised at all times. No dogs/pets allowed in day-use area, bathrooms, boardwalk and canoe run.
- Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the day-use area.We ask that guests be courteous of one another and limit floats in the swimming area to under 60 inches across. Please be aware the boardwalk remains closed due to age and hurricane damage.
- Children weighing less than 40 lbs are not allowed in rental canoes. No disposable items allowed on the canoe run (i.e., food wrappers, styrofoam coolers, cans, bottles, etc.) Only re-usable containers are allowed.
- Private canoe and kayak launches are at a fee and limited to 30 total vessels per day. Vessels must be launch BEFORE 1:00 p.m. daily. JUNIPER RUN IS NOT FOR BEGGINERS. IT IS A WILDERNESS AREA AND MECHANICAL TOOLS ARE NOT PERMITTED, SO THE RUN REMAINS WILD.
