Phipps Park & Campground

Great Rv campground, on the water near the dam lots of boating. Fishing, tent camping available about 20 of them. Nice and peaceful, walking paths, bird watching. Has laundry and bathrooms.

Visited my aunt and uncle renting a lot here, and it was one of the nicer places they have brought their camper that I have visited them at. Truly a lovely place, and not horrible access to the turnpike either.

Location was great. Easy to find. The adventure tents are awesome. Lookes to go again for valentine's day - only 1 left. Tents are spaced out enough for your privacy along with your grill and firepit. Thet do have firewood for sale as well. Bathrooms were private and clean and everyone was a joy to be around.

Wonderful campground that offers both full hookup RV sites and tent sites located on the St Lucie River with a number of waterfront RV sites. The campground has a very nice comfort station/bathhouse with nice showers and a coin operated laundry. A number of the waterfront sites have concrete pads the rest are gravel. Easy access form I95 and both fuel and groceries are nearby.

Phipps is a county park next door to the St Lucie Locks. Phipps has 99 full hookup RV sites and 19 "Adventure Tents". Among the RV sites, 38 are waterfront on the St Lucie River and 22 are waterfront on an interior lake.

Overall this is a really nice park with great views from the riverfront sites and a nice interior adventure tent area for those so inclined. Note for the adventure tents you cannot park directly at your site and must pack in your gear. There is a little traffic noise at times from the nearby turnpike bridge, but it never really bothered us.

Riverfront RV sites 1-24 have a concrete pad, all the rest are gravel. Beautiful location and totally big rig friendly, we had absolutely no issues with our 45' motorhome. On site 13 we were about 9" off level front to back which our leveling system had no problem with. I did see some rigs tho with tires off the ground.

It's fun watching the boats lock thru. If you have a Marine VHF, listen on channel 13 to hear the boat to lockmaster dialog. Use an AIS app like Marine Traffic to see info about the boats that have AIS transmission equipment.

The riverfront RV sites have a vast downhill expanse between the back of the site and the river, and mostly all are big rig capable. However, while not a negative, the site layout is a bit odd and bears some explanation. The sites are unusually arranged in pairs with the electric and water hookups placed in-between the two sites. The two sites in each pair are fairly close together, however, the spacing between each pair grouping is generous.

Using the riverfront sites as an example (may not apply to the other interior sites), all the odd numbered sites have the Water/Electric/Sewer on the correct side (for back-ins), but for the even numbered sites, when backing in Water/Electric is on the wrong side and Sewer is on the correct side.

So for those with a motorhome or van that choose (or are assigned) an even numbered site, they can pull-in instead of backing in. This puts Water/Electric on the correct side and Sewer on the wrong side. The Sewer on the wrong side presents a problem if you don't have enough sewer hose on board to cross under the coach. But on the plus side, it provides a grand view of the river out the front windshield of a Class A.

For towables however, they have no choice but to back in, so their patio side is very cramped due to the close proximity of the two site pair, plus they will need to run electric and water lines under their rigs, but sewer will be correct.

Bottom line is pick an odd numbered site if you have a towable or you don't want to mess with running hoses and wires under you rig. We had an odd numbered site and no issues, but would consider pulling our motorhome in to a even numbered site for the view, since we have a macerator setup and about 40' of hose if needed.
