About Lake Springs

Lake Springs Recreation Area is one of the most popular parks on J. Strom Thurmond Lake. The park is located on Georgia State Highway 221 within twenty minutes of Augusta, Georgia. The 70,000 acre lake and its 1,000+ miles of shoreline provide excellent boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, hiking and picnicking.  A $5 per vehicle day use fee is required to enter the park. All Federal Passes are accepted. Payment can be made on site, credit card only, no cash accepted.  The boat ramp and fishing pier are open year-round. All swim beaches, picnic tables, and group shelters close after Labor Day, September 6, and reopen April 28 EXCEPT the Deer Run beach, tables, and group shelter are open year-round.

What Guests Are Saying

The reviews highlight a lack of clarity regarding beach access at the pavilion locations, which led to disappointment for some visitors who found no beach at their reserved pavilion. Instead, they had to drive to a different area that provided beach access and amenities. Improved descriptions that include beach access information would enhance the experience and prevent misunderstandings.

The pavilion was perfect. It had the right amount of shade and sun and a wonderful breeze.

We reserved the Mallard Point pavilion for my wife's 40th birthday. We spent all day out there and had an excellent time. We had a little over 40 people come and about half were kids. We were able to cook two meals for 40+ people with no problems. The kids played at the cordoned off beaches all day two of which are very conveniently located to the pavilion (within easy eyesight). The views from the pavilion are very good. There is water, electricity, multiple grills and a couple bathrooms fairly close. One of the bathrooms is an outhouse (primitive) and it is pretty smelly when it is hot out. You cannot bring a boat up and beach it on the shore due to the Corps having bouys with "boats keep out" covering most of the point due to all the swim beaches. The rest of the point has a 4 or 5 ft retaining wall, so getting a boat to shore is pretty difficult. Those are the only negatives for the facility in my opinion, and both are pretty minor ones. Overall, we had a very good experience. Reservation was very easy on the website, although the facility was a bit expensive to rent for a day and then on top of it, everyone who came had to pay a 5 dollar parking fee per vehicle. One would think that if you pay a pretty good reservation fee, that the people attending your event shouldn't have to also pay for parking.

Our site was clean and well maintained and the park ranger was the BEST. We had 23 family members there and plan to return each year to have a family outing. Thank you one and all.

Very nice spot. Only bad thing Was supposed to have electrical and it didn’t work. Let the park ranger know and the tech was unable to fix. I have someone on oxygen and needed it.
