The campsites are big and spacious and the grounds are well kept. I would be prepared to use your camper showers ,the restrooms are not very nice.

Petersburg is a lovely Corps of Engineers campground near Augusta, Ga. Every campsite is on the lake, and the views are gorgeous. Nice sites. Good drainage when it rains. Restrooms are fairly clean and maintained. Ladies, there are no curtains or dividers to provide privacy in the dressing area of the showers.
Close to Augusta. Don't miss the Laurel and Hardy museum in HArlem!

Nice open spot with a great view of the cove. U-shaped pull thru is paved, while the other areas are packed dirt/gravel. Bath house was a bit of a walk, but was just as easy to drive. Access to lake was down a steep enbankment about 6 feet down. Small standing area on the shore of about 1-2 feet if you wanted to fish, but the lake is still a little low in depth. Not a lot of tree cover at this site. Got 3-4 bars of 4G with T-Mobile at this site.

We enjoyed our experience at Petersburg but there was a great deal of logging going on during our visit so things were quite noisy and messy. Sorry that most sites are gravel very hard on tent flooring and outdoor mats. I’m sure it makes for easier maintenance of course. We plan to return in the future. A beautiful park!

Very quiet and peaceful. Large and beautiful sites. Given the location, we were pleasantly surprised with the cell phone and hotspot connectivity (T-Mobile).

Visited in camper van four times for total of one month’s stay in Jan/Feb ‘23. Only one loop open, but took many dog walks around closed loops. Large, private, waterfront sites with water and electric. Free laundry. Bathhouse was clean. There’s a paddle trail on the lake. Get info at visitor center by the dam.

The campground is accessible via GA-221 approximately 6 miles to the east, which connects to US-278 about 10 miles away. I-20 is located roughly 20 miles to the south, providing further regional access.

General
- Gates open at 7:00am and close at 10:00pm. Combination lock codes will be issued to registered campers at check-in. If you need to leave due to an emergency and have trouble opening the gate, please notify the on-duty camp host.Gates open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. Gate are locked during these hours but a gate combination is issued to campers. In case of an emergency dial 911.
- No more than 12 campers allowed per site, and 4 vehicles per site if space allows. If vehicles do not fit, vehicles must be parked at the overflow lot.
- One wheeled camping unit (RV, Camper, Camper van/truck, etc) per single site and must be parked on impact pad. Tents are restricted to impact pad.
- Scooters, UTVs, and ATVs are prohibited; however, golf carts are allowed per campground rules. See Park Attendant at the campground gatehouse for more information.
- Maximum stay is 14-days within 30 day period. Changing names on a reservation, changing campsites, or making multiple reservations in order to stay over 14-days is prohibited and applicable across USACE campgrounds. Violaters may have reservations cancelled.
- Alcohol, fireworks, and firearms is prohibited
- Keep your campsite and campground clean. Keep your trash contained and frequently remove trash from campsite (dumpsters located within campground). Do not leave litter in fire ring or on campsite upon check out.
- Gray water (any wastewater from sinks, dishwashing, bathing, etc) or other waste water such as black water must be disposed of properly at campground dump station.
- All pets must be penned, caged, or on a leash no longer than 6 feet; pets are prohibited on swim beaches, playgrounds, and in restrooms. You MUST clean up after your pet!
- All shorelines adjacent to campsites are public property.
- There are alligators in the fishing pond at this campground. Please do not feed or interact with the alligators if you see them.

- Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
