This is a peaceful place. There is water at site five and site one. The odd numbered sites are on the lake, mostly flat and mostly large. The even numbered sites ate up an incline and with out truck camper it was not easy to find a flat place to park. We walked the hike to the Appalachian Trail and after 3.8 miles turned around not yet having reached it. The hike is pretty with some great views in the Fall and Winter. The bathrooms have “Porta-Potty” style toilets that flush. You loose your cellphone signal when you leave the main highway to go onto the road into the campground. That road is narrow with turnouts occasionally. We were there the last week of October and the Fall Leaf colors were amazing!

The sites are spacious and nice to walk around the pond. We’ve been going for years and talking to others who went for longer, the beauty in the site is the simplicity and the community of campers with minimal expectations. It is an interesting decision to require reservations online. The community of campers have known this site as first come/available, so it is necessary to first check the sites then go back to the main road for cellphone signal to reserve one of the actually available sites. With that said, the proposal to change the fee from $8 to $20 is extreme, when nothing has been attended to for campers except the compost toilets (gratitude is great when they have been cleaned & tp restocked). The only reliable water pump is by the first sites. The access road also has some significant pot holes and washboard areas. A higher rate would raise expectations and may attract campers unprepared for the simplicity. I would rather contribute to a capital campaign for repairs than see the rate increase.

Directions From Blairsville, GA take U.S. 19/129 south for 10.0 miles, turn right on GA Hwy 180. Go approximately 11.0 miles. Turn left on GA Highway 60, go 4.0 miles to Forest Service Road 654 on the left. Turn left, go 1.0 mile to campground.
From Dahlonega, GA take GA Highway 60 north approximately 13 miles to Forest Service Road 654 on the right. Turn right, go 1.0 mile to campground.

General
- Note: cell phone service may not work in some areas due to tower location and terrain., but there is generally cell coverage at the turn-off to the campground at highway 60.
- Drinking Water is available seasonally (April 1 - November 1), but the campground is winterized in the off-season (November 1 - April 1).
- No generators, music or other loud noises during this time. Be respectful to other campground visitors.
- Pack-it-In Pack-it-out. Although limited trash service is available at this recreation area, please take as much with you as you can.
- Limit of two vehicles per campsite
- Pets must be on a leash at all times.
- Campfires are permitted in grills only. Do not leave fires unattended; they must be fully-extinguished and cold to the touch before check-out.
- Day-Use is not permitted in unreserved campsites. Day-use visitors are not required to pay a fee, and can use the facilities available in the day-use area.
- There are no drinking water hook-ups, electrical hook-ups, or dump-station service at this site.
- Fishing in Dockery Lake is permitted, but a Trout Stamp is required under GA DNR regulations.
- Boating is permitted at Dockery Lake. Electric motors only, no internal combustion motors. Canoes, kayaks and paddleboards are acceptable.
- Swimming is prohibited in Dockery Lake.
- Discharging of firearms and fireworks is prohibited.
- Be bear aware; keep all food in containers or locked inside a vehicle as much as possible. Remove all food from the area after eating and during nighttime hours.
