Morganton Point campground is highly praised for its cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and friendly staff, making it a wonderful place for camping by the lake. Many visitors appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and easy access to recreation, including kayaking and swimming. However, some concerns were noted about noise from nearby sites, uneven camping spots, and deep fire pits, which could use improvement for a better experience.
Site 8 is a very un-level site that is difficult to park a trailer or set up a tent on. The fire pite is 32 inches tall and virtually useless as you cannot cook or see over the edges, its good for absolutely nothing. The beach area is about 3 blocks away through a wlk in the woods or pay an additional 5 dollars to park there. The restrooms and showers are very clean
I was to arrive on a Sunday for a week and Saturday I received a call that hospice was called in for my sister. So I tried to cancel my reservations on Saturday and Sunday. So I finally got to talk with someone at recreation.gov and they filled a request to morganton point for me and it has been 2 weeks with no response. My sister passed away on Monday of last week so I had to deal with that all week and not go camping. I think who ever is suppose to approve or deny the request should do a much better job.
We were in site 24. The campground was nice. we have never stayed at a campground where there were cars coming and going all the time, day and night and many the same ones over and over. It made it imposable to get a restful night's sleep, but the grounds were nicely kept.
This was our first stay. The weather was perfect. The bathhouses were clean. The staff was attentive and helpful. Our camp site was newly renovated and beautifully nestled into the woods with a path down to the lake. Except for the music we made around our campfire (and some applause that came from the next campsite over through the trees), the occasional sounds of a hawk, crows, a few water fowl, one lone screech owl, and some squirrels, it was peaceful and quiet. We brought kayaks and had some beautiful early morning paddles in the fog before the sun broke through and late evening paddles under the stars. It was a weekend we won't soon forget! We can highly recommend Morganton Point and we WILL be returning!!

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
