Lake Winfield Scott is a gorgeous location with access to hiking on AT. Our experience both at the campground and cabin was fantastic.

Weeks before arriving I called to find out if I could reserve the same campsite for an extra day when I get there, because it was showing up on this website as First come First serve. I was told we could pay cash upon arrival since we would be staying there the 5 days prior to the extra day we would be the first arriving so it would be fine. Upon arrival, we were told, no, it doesn't work that way. That the site needed to be reserved on recreation.gov but talk to the host. The host was not real friendly. Talked down on us, like we were a bother. Said that it was reserved for that night. I said how can that be if it's first come first serve. Then he went and got a paper to "prove it". The bathrooms were not sanitized or cleaned. They took out the garbage and kept the toilet paper filled. The showers by the lake where we had to shower, went to total darkness while we were there showering, and couldn't see our way back to the car. I requested a refund from Wed through Fri. with the camp director, and she said she would put in a request, because a tropical storm with 60 MPH winds was coming. We only knew this because we went into town. The camp host didn't even notify us and we were staying in a TENT with 3 children. When I called to get a refund through recreation.gov, they said I had to wait until the end of our scheduled reservation, which is ridiculous, because someone could have reserved the spot after the storm during the remaining days instead of just modifying the reservation and opening up the spot.

Staff extremely friendly, cabin clean and fully-equipped, campsites a splendid place for our Blood Mt. reunion. This was the 42nd year without a miss that our group has met the third weekend of October to climb Blood Mt. and celebrate what we call our New Year!

The park host was very courteous and even though the reservation system was giving her trouble she checked us in without any problem.

My first time and I loved LWS! Stayed in South Loop site #10 with one large tent/one vehicle. Plenty of room! Close to bathhouse. Very peaceful & quiet. Site was clean. Great trees to hang ENO hammock. Fall colors were great. Campsite hosts are great and make their rounds regularly, and are generous with info and advice. South Loop bathrooms could be updated a bit but they were clean (and that's what counts). Beach bathhouse by the lake is very updated, large, and has multiple sinks, stalls, and showers (more elbow room for all). Advice: if the leaves have fallen, bring a small rake to remove the leaves from tent pad. Allows tent/footprint to lay flatter and keep any rain water from collecting underneath. I had a great time and I will be back!

A nice, quiet campground! We were told they will be getting new bathroooms come 2021:o) Bathrooms are clean, however shower ran super hot and toilets didn’t flush well. We will definitely be back in the future!

First, I would like to commend the staff at Lake Winfield Scott for not charging us an entrance fee since we were doing a memorial service for our father. That was very gracious of them! We rented Pavilion 02, which accommodates 100, for the October 2020 service because even though there were only 40 of us, we felt that we could social distance easily in that space. It was a rainy day so it was great to be able to build a fire in the beautiful stone fireplace and the position of the benches was perfect for the service. There were enough picnic tables to set out a buffet and everyone had ample space to sit down to eat. The Pavilion also has electric outlets so we were able to set up a sound system with a microphone, used for both speakers and singers. There is a pathway around the lake to the fishing platform and it was easy to walk with level ground. There are a few steps up near the pavilion to access the rest rooms; however, the parking lot for the pavilion is up a flight of stone steps. We were very grateful that there was a park person with a golf cart available to drive anyone unable to make the stairs down to the pavilion. Everyone had a fabulous afternoon and we would not hesitate to return to Lake Winfield Scott in the future!

Great campground setup - would love to see it in the summer to enjoy the water activities. Was surprised at the easy access to the Appalachian Trail so it was awesome to be able to get some time on it and the beautiful scenery so close to the campground.
