I did not have a good experience. When I checked in, I was asked for my discount card and ID. I presented the discount card and my retired military ID card and was told the Army doesn’t recognize my military ID and requires a drivers license. After 30 years of active duty and 10 years DOD, this is the first time someone has refused my military ID. Totally UNSAT!

I was in site#48, a very nice site, easy to get in/out Driveway. Close to the bath house.

Stayed in Site 11 with a 37' 5th wheel. Have stayed at this site several times in the past. Easy in, easy out. Super quiet in the middle of December. OTA TV is not so good at this site. Cell reception is skosh but doable. Power is good, water pressure good.

Best park that we have been to. Clean, well kept with friendly helpful people! The location of the park is very convenient for shopping and exploring.

Very nice area. Have camped here several times. One of the few campgrounds open "off season." Really enjoy the West Point Lake area.

R Shaefer Heard Campground is one of our favorite places to camp in the southwest Georgia area. It is right on the lake and almost all of the sites are waterfront. There is an abundance of wildlife in the park. There are plenty of things to do in the area and it is a relaxing place to spend a weekend or longer.

Summary: Nice park with some very good sites. Old but clean bathrooms. Dirt in the water. Friendly staff.
Being the late fall the weather was cool and the park was fairly empty and very quite.
We had an amazing pull through site 39 that was very private, the next campsite was barely within sight. The site has a concrete pad and is fairly level. The site has a large retain wall on the driver sides and is curved so it took some wiggling to get far enough away from the wall to open the compartment doors. The utilities are on top of the 3 or 4 foot retain wall so be prepared to climb or walk around to get up to the water and power. The area on the curb side is large, level, and covered in screening, making it very smooth and flat. The water has the typical red dirt in it that results from the park using the freeze proof hydrant which always suck a little ground water into the system resulting in red or brown water heavy with sediment. It loaded up my 1 micron filter in just 10 days.
The lake was down and it had very good water access, not sure what it would be like if the lake were full.
The staff is friendly and available.
The restrooms are very old but they are in good shape and well maintained with soap, paper towels, nice enough showers with good hot water.
