What Guests Are Saying
R. Shaefer Heard campground offers well-maintained, spacious sites with beautiful lake views, ample privacy, and friendly staff, making it a favorite for many visitors. The location is convenient, with easy access to shopping and activities, and the facilities are generally clean. However, some guests noted issues with rude staff on certain days and outdated bathrooms, along with occasional pest problems. Overall, it is regarded as a fantastic place to camp and relax.

A lot of the sites are steep to back in to but level where you would park. Bathrooms were old but clean. Overall the park was clean and grounds mowed. Paved roads made walking the campground pleasant. Would go back if passing through again.

This spot is good for rvs but not tents because the fire pit is right on the tent space and is way too close to the tent so it would be difficult to have a fire. There are also no trees between this lot and 116 so there is no privacy. If you rent both lots for family/friends, this is a great area!

First time at Shaefer and we loved it. We had spot 88. It was wooded on one side and on the other you could sit and relax in camper while looking out at the lake. The next spot was not very close at all to us. If you are outside it's not shaded. That's what awnings are for though. It's very flat and easy to back into. This site does have a grill. Not all of them do. The lake was beautiful and just a few feet from the campsite. Both of us have Verizon and we had a great signal throughout our stay. We used our hotspot for tv's inside and out with no problem. Park attendants were very nice and gave us brochures for the park and the lake. We rode around to find other sites we might like even better. Going back soon to a different site to try it out, already booked. There is a Dollar General and Walmart within 15 minutes of the park. Dumpsters and dump station nicely maintained.

My stay was EXCELLENT except for the woman who was manning the gate. Our site was still occupied when we arrived so we had to pull off to the side and wait. You are to stay with your vehicle. We arrived 1.5 hr early and after a 4.5 hr ride, the woman at the gate didn't want me to walk 1/2mi. into the campground (my husband was still with our vehicle) to use the rest room. She wanted me to go to the day use area which was at least 2x as far. Did she think I was going to pull my trailer over there just to use the restroom? I'm all for rules, but sometimes a little leniency is in order. She was just being totally ridiculous. Glad I didn't see her for the remainder of my stay.
