What Guests Are Saying
The stay at Lower Penstemon was enjoyable, with a beautiful and quiet campground featuring a lovely creek that kids and pets appreciated. While the restrooms near campsite 1 were in poor condition, the overall cleanliness, excellent campsites, and fantastic trails contributed to a positive experience. However, potential visitors should note navigation issues with the website and campground map, as well as the small size of site 5 for tent camping.

We were glad we brought toilet paper because there wasn’t much when we got there. Also on one of the outhouses had a broken handle. We were surprised to see so many moose… it was awesome. We kept our distance of course. Not much shade in some of the campsites , so bring your own.

A small loop campground, a fair distance from the "beaten track." Forest Route 500 continuing on to Oakley is about 25 miles on a dusty gravel road (in case you don't want to go back out the way you drove in).
There is a trail along the crest of the ridge above the campground--just go up the steep hill maybe 100 yards. Watch deer grazing on the opposite side of the valley.

I booked sites 2 and 6 for a group of people. We all ended up staying at site 2, as there was more flat area for tents and more open space overall. All sites are very close to bathrooms. It is about 40 minutes away from cell service, which was nice! Quiet, peaceful campground.

Visited from southern California and was very surprised at how beautiful Idaho is and this campground was amazing! Would definitely visit here again. Beautiful scenery and very off grid

This camp site is nonexistent. The owners of the Ski Lodge have dismantled it and have the fire ring leaning against their building. There is no table, or any other semblance of a campsite there. Choose a different spot.
