About Avery Creek Cabin

Avery Creek Cabin is located 20 miles northeast of Kingston, Idaho, along Forest Road 208. The fully furnished three-room cabin is adjacent to the North Fork Coeur d'Alene River on the Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The cabin was built between 1926 and 1928 to house Forest Service employees needed for administrative supervision and fire protection. It was built from a standard Forest Service plan known as the firemen's cabin. In 1935, a picnic area was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps across the road from the cabin and adjacent to the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River. In 1940, a bathroom was added in a board and batten shed addition to the cabin's east side, and a rustic log garage was built behind the cabin. The cabin was used for crew housing until 1981. Newly renovated, the cabin is now fully accessible. Avery Cabin's central location along the North Fork Coeur d'Alene River provides easy access to the site. Access to the cabin is along paved roadways, making it an easy destination to reach by car. The cabin is available from mid-May through September, and provides many of the comforts of home. Guests only need to bring a few of their own amenities for an enjoyable stay.

What Guests Are Saying

Avery Creek Cabin offers a pleasant stay with electricity, hot water, and a rustic charm enhanced by new appliances and improved water systems. Guests enjoy nearby hiking trails, a creek, and a lovely swimming hole, making it ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. While there have been reports of mice and a bat, recent improvements and cleanliness contribute to a generally positive experience, though some furnishings, like the mattress, may need attention.

Due to vehicle problems we were unable to arrive on our due date, being forced to lose one night. We arrived early evening on what was supposed to be our full day at the cabin. We almost cancelled the entire stay, but very glad we didn't The cabin was clean, spacious enough for us and two grandsons. We enjoyed a campfire, the river and being surrounded by very tall pine trees. Avery Creek is certainly on a future list of visits! Great place!

The cabin was very clean and tidy and we loved our stay. The front porch is a fabulous place for morning coffee and we had breakfast daily at the picnic table listening to Avery Creek. The cabin interior is dark and we needed lights on even during the day. We saw only one mouse; we kept our food in Tupperware containers, and placed chips, bread etc. in the car at night so had no problems. A quick walk to the river where we swam (COLD) and saw a bald eagle, beaver and momma duck with ducklings. We hiked the trail, behind the garage, along Avery Creek it was beautiful, but there are many trees down, so it was slow and tricky. I highly recommend Avery Creek Cabin and would love to return next year. The driveway/parking area could be tricky for big vehicles to get turned around.

I absolutely loved this cabin, the water is directly across the street and the fire pit and creek were very peaceful. The only negative thing I can say is the water heater must be broken because our showers were ice cold, and we had to keep ice in coolers because the freezer didn’t work well. With that said I’ll definitely rent this cabin in the future, plenty of room and amazing fun to be had with family.

Disappointed that No toilet paper or hand soap provided. Cleaning supplies were minimal! No glass cleaner etc. The futon cover is super gross, I instantly covered that with a sheet upon arrival.. The bathroom rugs provided also, pretty dirty and gross. I mopped up some large dust bunnies and tried to give the place a good cleaning but we only stayed for one night and I couldn’t spend my whole time doing that.. Next time I will donate rugs, cleaning supplies and a futon cover. The location is beautiful and very accessible.

The cabin overall is great . A bat still flies about at night and we only caught one mouse . The shower head still needs to be changed to a higher flow so the water heater will kick in too . the new futon was nice too

Love the new stove, refrigerator, kitchen and bathroom sinks, and toilet. The on-demand water heater is gone and a standard water heater installed - GREAT improvement. The whole water system seems improved.
The only downer is the mattress in the bedroom - wires ate sticking up!!! Needs replacement.
Overall great cabin to rent.

Have stayed at Avery Creek Cabin several times now and on this most recent trip, the cabin was in great shape with new appliances, water heater and fewer mice. It is rustic but having electricity, hot water and a shower feels like luxury for the area. While we were there, the FS guy showed up to perform the monthly water quality test so you know the water is potable.

The cabin was overall very nice. That said, the report of mice inside the cabin are very true. We trapped mice each night while there. There was also a bat residing in the bedroom. I'm not sure what could be done about it, but sharing space with rodents was a bit of a hurdle for my kids.
