Stayed over Labor Day Weekend 2024. It was a beautiful stay! The Steel Creek group site was *packed* that weekend and they all had dirt bikes, so it was a little noisy at times. But I love the fenced in portion of the site for privacy (although a few people jumped the fence and walked up the road to take a little look). Haha, can't always help who the neighbors are, but the site and the cabin are great. The outhouse is great.

I spent a quiet 3 days at Al Taylor. This is my fourth visit there. I just needed some quiet and solitude and Al Taylor delivers.

That cabin was beyond perfect. I’ve never felt so at peace as I did there with my pup. I’m thankful I was able to get my small motor home up in there because she has a fridge that kept my food cold. I’d love to come back there one day again. ❤️

Staying at the AL Taylor cabin was one of the most amazing trips we have ever taken. It is clean and well kept and the surroundings are a little bit of heaven. Hiking and sitting are everything you need here for a perfect stay!

This is a cozy, clean, well cared for cabin. Tucked away yet easy to get to. It has clean bathrooms and all the off grid amenities one could want.

Forgot to mention some things in our last review. There is a horse corral with a little area dug out for water from the creek. Also the fire pit has 2 grill surfaces and a bar to hang items over the fire for cooking and warming. There is plenty of seating out front with the two picnic benches and additional benches.
The water pump at the group campground was not working during our stay.
We reported to the ranger office the one bedroom with two single beds that the mantles were gone and the one in the kitchen needing replacing.
Don't forget to call to get the combination as it is not emailed like most other cabins! We were staying at several cabins this trip and forgot to but LUCKILY the combination was still the same from our last visit. WHEW!
Great place and great price! Not getting expensive like cabins in Montana...Yet.

Winter visit required the use of the stove which is nearly impossible to start and maintain without getting a lot of smoke into the cabin. Once started the stove works well, but you have to go through the operation instructions. Propane is connected for lamps, but you should bring your own stove as the wood fired stove leaks additional smoke into the cabin if you attempt to use it. The mattresses are quite comfortable. It's also worth noting that the woods in the area are quite walk-able due to the decimation left behind by the local cattle.

The location of this cabin is excellent and the site is very nice, overlooking the creek and mountains with open forest behind. It was clean when we arrived and was perfect for our hunting party. The beds were far more comfortable than expected, and kitchen well stocked, pit toilet very clean. The only issue we had was with the wood burning insert in the fireplace with smoke coming in the cabin so hopefully whatever blockage there was has been fixed.

Very scenic with good amenities.
You can get there in a car in season.
One bedroom has two twin beds with one propane light.
One bedroom has two bunk beds with one propane light.
Main room has stove in additional to fireplace, with newer dining table, newer storage unit and newer storage kitchen prep table. 3 light propane unit in center ceiling. This place is maintained better by local USPS office than many other cabins we have stayed.
Very nice floor especially compared to other cabins.
Bring tarp, sheet or use mattresses to block one of the bedrooms if you are not using to conserve heat in cold months.
Hand pump for water at campground nearby. Sadly no sink in unit.
Good size porch.
Fire pit with two picnic tables.
Tarps are there to cover wood which is nice.
A rarity in that there is trash collection so you don't have to haul around in your vehicle when leaving.
Nice ADA pit toilet.
Locked gated entry for privacy.
Nice quiet area although some reported complaints over campers noise and ATV noise from nearby campgrounds from journals. Maybe not go on holiday weekends or weekends in general if possible.
It seems Al Taylor who built the cabin was short and had short family members and friends. Watch your head going in and out of the cabin. Was aware of this but STILL hit my head a few times.
This is one of the most enjoyable cabins we have stayed at especially for $35. This is why you see it rented so much. We will stay again if ever in the area. You should stay too.
