About Antone Cabin

The Antone Cabin, constructed in 1929, sits in a beautiful open meadow, at the edge of a thick forest, providing visitors with a unique camping experience on the southwestern end of the Snowcrest Mountain range. With it's end of the road location, it's usually pretty quiet in the summer. The cabin opens for use on July 1and stays open until December, and it is popular throughout the rental season. The cabin is small and intended for 2 people. In addition to hunting access, the facility provides ample opportunities for hiking, backpacking and horseback riding. The cabin lies within proposed wilderness so snowmobiling and bicycling are not permitted off the main access road, FS325. Snowmobile use, on the road, is only permitted after December 1. Visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities to really enjoy their stay at Antone Cabin.  Antone Cabin is closed on Tuesdays for administrative purposes.

Always a great stay. Amazing location with lots of trail options near by, Cabin was extremely clean. Sleeping pads are getting a long in the tooth, either need to be replaced or think about bringing some extra padding!

Very pleased with our Experience at Antone Cabin. It is an ideal setup for 2 people. My 14yo son and I stayed for 5 nights while Hunting Elk in Mid-Nov.
Amenities were great. There were several pots/pans and plates and utensils that had been left to stock the cabin. Most necessary cleaning supplies were available. I was worried about the bed as I'm 6'5", so I even packed a cot just in case. The bunk beds WERE AMAZING. Long enough for a big guy like me, and the foam mattress was super comfortable. My 14yo son and I slept awesome. Wood stove allowed us to keep it plenty warm during a week where it never got above 30, got hot enough inside one night we had to crack the windows even though it was 15 degrees outside. Propane lamps and stove worked well (didn't use oven). Plenty of firewood, which we restocked. The cabin felt bigger in person than in the pictures IMO.

Hunting was good. We saw some Elk, nothing we could shoot though. Shocked that we never saw a Mule Deer all week. We had a ton of snow. 6-8" old snow when we got there. 8-12" fresh snow one day followed by a day of 40+mph winds which created tons of drifts and very difficult hiking. Lots of other hunter traffic from the trailhead parking 100 yards away. While there was a ton of hunting pressure nearby....The cabin made the experience worth the drive from Oklahoma.

Always a nice cabin cleaned up well and had the items we needed outside of a total absence of toilet paper. Surprised to see that there are now only two bunks instead of four, don't know the reason for that. No trouble with mice or other critters.
For the nightly rate they're really should be toilet paper such that it never runs out 🙁. Of course we brought our owners back up but should not have had to use it.

The cabin was very clean and the area around the yard was mowed and clean. The spring was improved and it was easy to get water. The Pit Toilet was also clean. The new gate into the cabin yard was a big improvement. Thanks to all the crew that work on keeping this Cabin site one of our favorites.

Antone cabin is located in a very scenic pass and is a precious asset in the Forest Service rental program. I regret that the horse flies won the conflict one day into a scheduled four night reservation. I stayed through the second night but withdrew to the interior of the cabin for day two reading and not enjoying the picturesque setting as planned. I abandoned the cabin two days earlier than my reserved out-date. I fully agree with the visitor log entry identifying the horse fly population as epic through the majority of the day excluding a respite for the early morning opportunity to enjoy the front porch and perhaps an hour before and after sunset.
