What Guests Are Saying

Dam East - McNair Campground offers a clean, quiet environment with well-maintained sites and friendly camp hosts, making it a pleasant place for visitors. The campground features paved paths, easy access to fishing, and ample walking and biking trails. However, some concerns include shared water spigots, occasional insect issues, and the need for upgrades to certain facilities, such as the shower house and tree maintenance.

On this site it is very very obvious that trees need to be cut down
I filed one complaint on tree limb cutting into my roof and no one ever did anything about it
Look around the campsite
You can see the damage that has been done from the tree diseases
It is sad
However they must come down
No one wants to see that
However that is cheaper to someone losing their life from a falling tree limb
All one has to do is take a look around each campsite and see the trees that are a hazard

I stayed at the dam east campground below the Carlyle lake spillway on the Kaskaskia River. The bathrooms were very clean and to my surprise, heated. Would gladly stay there again.

We spent one night in the campground, and it was GORGEOUS. I would have given five stars, but the naming convention and lack of detail maps made the campground difficult to locate using campground names. Once we switched to GPS coordinates (provided by USACOE) it took us right to it. We were unable to locate the check-in gate house, however, and only found the dump station after asking another camper where it was. The campsite itself was level and hard-surfaced. This is a GREAT campground! It was the only COE campground left in the system that hadn't already closed for the winter.
