What Guests Are Saying
Thomson Causeway is praised for its beautiful riverside camping, clean facilities, and friendly staff, making it a favorite among visitors. Campers appreciate the spacious concrete pads, proximity to nature, and stunning sunsets over the Mississippi River. While some concerns were raised about noise from barking dogs and a less-than-friendly host, the overall experience is highly positive, with many planning to return.

This campground is laid out nicely and very well maintained. Even the pit toilets were kept very clean. The camp sites are consistently well designed with neat driveways, good tables, and the fire pit rightly positioned in the far corner of the pad area. The majority of sites have concrete driveways. My only complaint on the layout is that many sites are just too close together. Most all sites have excellent shade. The natural scenery at this park is nice, with lots of wildflowers and birds, and a great view of the Mississippi River.
The campground was quiet during the summer weekdays but it got busy and rowdy on the weekend with barking dogs and the like.

Everything about Thomson Causeway is great. The marshes and shoreline are fantastic and sunsets across the river are always spectacular. You can find everything from sand prairie to riparian forest within a few miles of the campground on the Great River Trail which is the main reason I camp there. The campsites are flat, level and well maintained and the restroom-shower buildings are clean and have plenty of hot water. I'm just happy we are back to being able to do same-day arrivals without reservations so I can again enjoy one-night stays at Thomson Causeway when riding the trail.

We come to Thompson Causeway several times a year. Never stayed in the River Loop. We got a good site looking out at the Mississippi River. Liked the spot.

Bring lots of mosquito spray. Plan for the "old" check in system as this park hasn't caught up with the, much handier and newer check in at your sight system. Staff is not particularly cordial or helpful.

Nice place, enjoyed the wild life, turtles , deer, crawfish, birds. The mayflies were bad the 1st few days but then they were gone. Bath house was clean and the showers hot.

Definitely needs more parking in the camping areas. The sites are a bit close to each other. And could be longer. Again i had to park my vehicle a half mile away and walk to my site.
