Excellent campsites, you’re not right next to each other. Only bad part is that they are all reservations only. I’m a local and like to go on a whim once in a while. Instead I have to make reservations ahead of time and hope for good weather. Bring back the days that I could get up on a nice morning and load the car and be there at noon! We’ve been going there since it opened.I’ve been to27 national parks and this campground is one of the best.

Warm showers, facilities are very well maintained. You need to walk down steps to reach the walk-in campsites. Lake Michigan is nearby, but not necessarily walking distance. The closest shoreline (Lakeside) is rocky without access to the lake. For the best sand/beach experience, drive west of the campground to one of the other beaches in the National Park. The ranger station located inside the visitors bureau on highway 49 is very, very helpful.

Dunewood campground is always a wonderful experience. The facilities are always clean and working. I tent-camped in October, and it was nice to have a hot water shower during those days when it was under 40 F at night. The grounds are beautifully laid out, with ample space between camp sites. The campers were all well-behaved. The dunes and Lake Michigan were totally awesome. October is a great month for seeing fall colors, and the combination of brisk fall air and waves on the lake are inspiring. Thank you Dunewood staff for all that you do!

As usual .... simple, quiet camping. No frills and unwanted activities. This is how we prefer it. We don't NEED electricity, etc. Very clean campground. Well taken care of.

- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
