What Guests Are Saying
Howell Station is a highly praised campground known for its spacious, clean sites and beautiful natural surroundings, making it a favorite for families. Campers enjoy the quiet atmosphere, friendly staff, and numerous recreational opportunities, including biking and wildlife watching. Some minor improvements are suggested, like better Wi-Fi and complete hookups, but overall, visitors have had great experiences and plan to return.

The restrooms are the cleanest of all camp grounds!!! The biggest problem is, you can't get phone reception 😒 Everyone complains about it. I couldn't send a text or receive them. You place a call and 90% of the time it wouldn't go through. We only got 1 TV channel, always happens below the damage. We go there because it is close to our grandchildren.

We always enjoy our stays at Howell Station. Love the amount of wildlife, river views, and the bike paths. This trip was cut short because of a death in the family, and not by anything at Howell. Can't wait to make another reservation, especially for this fall.

Campground was just as I remember it from 20yrs ago. Clean showers and restrooms, friendly camp hosts, and nice playgrounds for the kiddos. Only thing I did have an issue with was the fishing. Not sure what the Corps of Engineers is doing, but I've never seen fishing so bad below the dam as I did during our stay. Talking with the locals, the all had the same complaint. (And that has nothing to do with Howell Station Campground) Top notch, and I will definitely be coming back!

Howell Station is a great place to camp. It has spacious sites and access to clean restrooms. It's very family friendly with nice paved biking trails and playgrounds scattered throughout the campground.

Nice big sites for camping, some of the biggest I've seen in Iowa. The bathrooms were updated and clean!! Love that.
We did receive notice from the park ranger of upcoming storms, so that was nice since we had little to no access to WiFi in that campground. The campers next to us actually drove to the gas station up the hill in order to get reception on their phones to track the radar.
The only suggestion was that the grass was not mowed before a long holiday week & weekend. This made for pretty wet shoes from the dew on the grass that set in from about 9pm til 10am for both walking to the bathroom/showers and our 2 friends that were tent camping.
