We stayed at a site right on the water in May 2023. Wonderful view to wake up to! However, do not expect much shade. I used their showers during our stay. At Sugar Bottom, you have your own individual room that has both shower and toilet, which I appreciate. These seemed to be well cleaned. The DNR was available and seemed helpful and friendly.

This is one of the best camp grounds in the state. It is very clean and the host and rangers are very helpful.

We love camping at Sugar Bottom campground in the full hookup section. There is plenty of grassy area to put up our portable dog pen so our pets can play too. Grounds are kept clean and mowed. The campground hosts regularly make rounds to make sure rules are followed and if anyone needs assistance.

A beautiful park that is very well maintained. We stayed for 10 days and the weather was just about perfect. The bath houses/showers were clean and the the water for showers had great pressure. We will definitely come again at the end of the season.

First of all there were no signs or warnings about the major hills and 90• turns just to get in. People were flying and we almost got hit several times.
During the week was great. On the weekends was another story. People parting with load speakers, music ect till 3 am. None of the rules were enforced. People even left early.
Will Never go back!

Camp spot was shady, spacious and had a nice view.
Bathrooms/showers were surprisingly clean! Staff was friendly and good humored.
Hiking trails nearby and Iowa Raptor Center a short drive away.
I really enjoyed my stay. 😁

We were in site 58 we had a very nice and relaxing view of the lake. The campground host was very nice and friendly. The site had a small slope towards the lake but leveling up wasn’t bad. The site was paved and the dump station could accommodate 4 rigs at one time. The fire wood was on the honor system and supported the group taking care of the area. The coy was $5 for 6 pieces of wood. The nice thing about the location of this campground was you were just about 3-5 miles away from the city so you didn’t have to go very far to get any supplies. Which also made it easy for eating out and fuel for your vehicle.

I was disapointed the visitors center was closed. Sites were a bit close and not enough trees for my taste, but otherwise it was a nice campground and the shopping was only 3 miles away. I especially liked the bathrooms with showers that were a disapointment at other places.

enjoyed the stay facilities recommendable. Most park attendants were pleasant except for the campground host a little brash out of the gate made my companion just a little uncomfortable but finally was pleasant after informing us of the proper proceedure. Overall nice stay and should try it again someday.
