Beautiful campsite. Very quiet and low traffic area. Closest camping spot to fishing from the river north of the dam or Eagle spotting there. Located between the trailheads for several hikes from the Outlook area and the west dam trailhead for the Elk River hiking trail. We appreciated the covered grill for outdoor cooking and the privacy and natural beauty of the area and will camp here when we visit again!

Although the tents sites are small, so that you camp quite close to your neighbors, the campsite's location is conveniently close to the trailhead for the Elk River Hiking Trail. All-trails rates the Elk River Trail, a well-marked trail through interesting limestone cliffs, the best backpacking trail in Kansas.

Site 10 didn’t have a lot of flat spots, but we found a place to camp near a little trail down to the creek. We thought the nearby standing water would cause a lot of mosquitos but didn’t end up having a bug problem. There was unfortunately broken glass at our site in the grass, as well as some trash. Pit toilet was clean and not very smelly!
