Sites were large and campground was quiet. Not a sign at the turn for the road back into the park. Watch for the Dairy Queen, the road is right across from it.

The campground is pretty, the porta potties weren't terrible, and fellow campers were friendly and quiet. Just know that the campsites are VERY VERY close together. If you plan to tent camp, you have a bit more room and you can camp by the water, which is nice. If you have anything larger than a van, you might want to go somewhere else.

The campground was mostly quiet despite the campsites being literally on top of each other and fully booked. There was a rooster that would continuously crow for a bit at 6pm and 6am. The portajohns were somewhat clean when we got there but overnight people had peed all over everything in them.

Good (mostly quiet*) trip, only a few other campers there the night I stayed. Pretty basic site, but porta-loos and everyone was respectful.
*there is a rooster. that crows until 8p. But then he naps until 6a.

Note: Do not rely exclusively on your mobile GPS, Google Maps or similar automated navigation systems to get to the Houchin Ferry Campground. Routes can be misleading and incorrect.
Directions from the North: Take Interstate 65 to Exit 53 (Cave City Exit). Turn right onto KY-70. Follow 70/255, about 4 miles you turn left on 255 just before entering the park, follow this to Brownsville Rd, turn left and follow this all the way until it ends at Hwy-101, turn right go about a quarter mile to Houchin Ferry Rd. (Minit Mart on corner), turn right and follow this to campground.
Directions from the South: Take Interstate 65 to Exit 48 (Park City Exit). Turn left onto KY-255 follow this into the park, when you come to the stop sign turn left and follow this to Brownsville Rd, turn left and follow this all the way until it ends at Hwy-101, turn right go about a quarter mile to Houchin Ferry Rd. (Minit Mart on corner), turn right and follow this to campground.
Houchin Ferry Campground has access to Interstate 65, with Exit 53 (Cave City Exit) and Exit 48 (Park City Exit) providing routes to KY-70 and KY-255 respectively. Both highways lead to local roads that connect to the campground.

- Firearms must be carried in accordance with Kentucky state law, but all other weapons are prohibited. Possession of firearms in the park buildings and cave is prohibited. The use of firearms is prohibited anywhere within Mammoth Cave National Park.
