What Guests Are Saying
Canal Campground is highly praised for its spacious and clean sites, friendly hosts, and beautiful surroundings, making it a favorite among campers. Visitors enjoy the quiet atmosphere, well-maintained facilities, and opportunities for outdoor activities like fishing and biking. While some noted minor issues like dated showers and occasional noise from golf carts, the overall experience remains positive, with many planning to return.

Really enjoyed our spot at Canal on Hill Loop, however if you are a large rig be aware that the Hill loop is difficult to get in and out of for large rigs. But perfect to watch the boats, sailboats and barges pass. Little Cafe is a must place to eat at and the town of Grand River is quaint. If you drive through the Buffalo and Elk sanctuary...the best time is morning or later in the evening when they are more active

The dump station hole was difficult to reach with my hose. I never had that issue before.

Nice views of the Canal, Barges passing through, sunrise and sunset. I like that they had recycling, you don’t see that at too many campsites.

We camped in Nash Flats...lovely shelter and fishing dock near by. The town of Grand Rivers was fantastic for restaurant and antique shopping. Able to do day trips and explored Trace area with elk/ bison prairie. Camping spot was perfect for our needs.

The Canal is my favorite place to camp. I drive 200 miles from Southeastern Illinois to camp there.

This is a great campground.
You can rent a boat and enjoy the lake or rent a golf cart and drive to town - or do both!
We loved riding all over the camp ground and looking at all the other camper sites.
The camp sites are grouped together in small circles, - so the kids can safely ride around on their bikes.

The picture for The Flats were a little deceiving. The flats are just a nice level parking lot. The shower houses might of been the cleanest I’ve ever seen anywhere!! Park was clean and well kept.
