About Holly Bay

Holly Bay, located two miles north of the Laurel River Dam, sits on the west side of Laurel River Lake. Visitors enjoy the campground for its proximity to the water and beautifully forested location. Plus, Holly Bay is ideal for activities like power boating, canoeing and fishing. Love this campground. The lake is so clear and peaceful. The Camp Host (Lisa) was so nice and helpful.
The marina seems to be starting to encroach on the serenity of the campground by expanding too much. I hope they don't go too much further into the camping area.

Holly Bay is a nice COE campground. Electric service and water pressure was good. We stayed on G loop, site was level and clean. We brought our kayaks, the weather was exceptional for late April in KY. Water was was very clean and clear, not a lot of boat traffic. Now for the not so great part, we took our kayaks down to the boat ramp to launch (hauled in the bed of my truck). When we got back we had a snarky note from the campground attendant saying that our truck had to be parked at our campsite. So from that one of us has to take the truck all the way back to the campsite after dropping off the kayaks and then walk back? and then walk back to get the truck after we are done? Not happening. Apparently if you don't have a boat trailer you shouldn't be parking at the boat ramp parking lot, kayaks don't count. There was one truck with a boat trailer in the lot. I did notice that the campground hosts had kayaks. But no boat trailer. Wonder if anyone ever left them a note.

The RV sites were located in deep beautiful woods. We took the short trip to Cumberland Falls which was a beautiful place to visit and there was easy access to the Falls. Also visit the original KFC in Corbin, Ky and the Laurel Lake Dam. Ernie’s Spirits Liquor Store was our place to get Kentucky bourbon as a souvenir.

The boat ramp parking spots are old school and made for short trailers. Its very difficult to park beside other longer trailers and be able to back out of spot especially if longer trailer is parked across from you. Some investment needs to be made at boat ramp parking. Take out the empty building and some trees and make the area bigger. Stripe the parking spots at angle like most modern boat parking. Asphalt the shoulders going down to ramp so that area can be used for parking without getting warnings for parking on gravel shoulder. There is literally no where else to park. The overflow parking area is a mess. Full of utility trailers, piles of junk wood etc.. The boat ramp parking and overflow parking need corrected.

Sites are spacious and not crowded, very clean place. I was mainly excited about the fishing but even though the water looks accessible from the map, it’s really not. You’re on the mountain side and even if you hiked down, the water is shielded by brush and trees. Also very little cell service

The only complaint is the dump station. We had to wait over an hour. It would be very beneficial to have a second dump station. There is obviously plenty of room for one. I spoke with the host over this topic, and he was agreeable.
