About Mammoth Cave Campground

Mammoth Cave Campground offers campers a prime location to explore both the depths and surface treasures of Mammoth Cave National Park.  Clicking on the site link will provide more details about the site's conditions. Be sure to check the 'Need to Know' section for each site to gather additional information on specific conditions.  All wheels must remain on the pavement within the campground, as varying conditions can cause muddy ruts and erosion. Mammoth Cave is an underground passageway with over 400 miles of naturally sculpted limestone and sandstone, making it the longest recorded cave system in the world. The grand-scale chambers and winding passageways were the inspiration for the park’s name.  The campground also serves as an entry point to 14 miles of hiking and biking trails, and is just a five-minute walk to the Visitor Center, where cave tours begin

Enjoyed the main campground nearest the Visitor Center, amicable to Tent Campers with all the necessary amenities.
Multitude of activities and tours of several caves within the National Park.
Make sure to book any/all reservations early, for they do sell out. Although the caves get all the attention, there are fine hiking trails and water recreation along the Green River within the Park.

Camping in the campground is always amazing. The site is nice and big and clean. The bathrooms are always clean. The camp store always has what we need.

We did run into a problem this time around. We arrived late to our site (like 9:30 pm) and found someone already set up in our site. We called the ranger and they suggested to ask them to leave or to just take another spot. We did ask the other people to leave but the refused. We did not feel right taking another spot so we ended up in a hotel.

The campground was amazing in dealing with this situation. The camp hosts were very helpful and did an amazing job of getting the problem dealt with. The campground also refunded us and handled the situation amazingly.

The location was perfect! It’s close to everything- visitor center, tours, and trails. Everything at the campground is clean and easily accessible (trash, bathrooms, water pump, etc). We love it here!

The campground map was not accurate, which we had used to pick our campsite. Also the site was very sloped which was not conducive to our van. Not that we needed one but there wasn’t even a tent pad at the site. Nice campground, pretty poor site. The visitor center was amazing! I would love to come back but not to that campsite!
