About Maple Springs

At Maple Springs, visitors can enjoy the serenity of the campground and surrounding backcountry trails, or spend their days exploring Mammoth Cave. Campers can explore up to ten miles of the cave through a variety of tours available at the Visitor Center. With more than 400 miles (644 km) of mapped passageways, Mammoth Cave ranks as the world's longest known cave system. Mammoth Cave is named for its grand size and scale. Visit the Rotunda for an idea of just how large this underground world is. The World Heritage Site was explored by Native Americans more than 2,000 years ago, and Europeans discovered its existence at the turn of the 19th century.

Overall, we really enjoyed this campground but there are some things we wish we would have known ahead of time. First, there is no one to check in with when you arrive. No guard shack or anything. We arrived after dark so this was a surprise to us and we just had to figure it out. It wasn’t bad, just unexpected. The next thing, it’s DARK at night. No really, there were only 3 or 4 other campers on the grounds while we were there and at night, it was very dark out there without street lights around the campground. Lastly, we selected this campground due to the proximity to Mammoth Cave which according to GPS said it would take us 6-10 minutes to get there. In actuality, the ferry road was closed so we had to go all the way around and it took more like 45 minutes to get to the visitor center. Not a huge deal but it was just unexpected. With all that said, I would stay here again because it was super quiet and away from everything.

Enjoyed our stay at Maple Springs group camp site. We done some tent camping but utilized the Power connection for lights and some other stuff also. Was great experience for the kids. We ended up leaving before the second night though. Wish you could reserve half days or something for those that don’t want to stay a full two days but need more time to pack up the second.
