The campground was nice. The camp attendants didn’t check sites between checkout/checkin. They also weren’t very pleasant. As long as you don’t mind cleaning up what the last camper left & don’t need to deal with the attendant (other than checking in) it’s great.

Axtel Campground is the best at Rough River!! The people at the check-in station are always friendly and helpful! The only problem I had this year was, we were told they were going to shut the campground down from 7/6/2021-10/31/2021 so we made reservations at Laurelbranch for the remainder of the year. In May when we were camping at Axtel we asked about the closing and we were told they were NOT shutting down now and that they were going to repair one bathroom at a time!!! At the time we heard about the change in plans, it was too late to change our reservations to Axtel because they were all booked up! WE SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL ABOUT THE CHANGE SINCE WE ARE REGULARS AT AXTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only reason I heard about the closing was through Recreation.gov when I asked about it one time when I had called to make a reservation. There was NOTHING posted, that I saw, about Axtel closing on their website!!!!! That is terrible communication, how are customers suppose to know!!
