Assateague Island National Seashore Campground offers a beautiful and unique camping experience, highlighted by the presence of wild horses and scenic beaches. Many visitors appreciate the friendly staff, well-maintained sites, and the variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, kayaking, and exploring the natural surroundings. However, some concerns were raised about mosquito levels, restroom cleanliness, and noise disturbances, suggesting that campers should come prepared with insect repellent and be mindful of food storage to avoid attracting wildlife. Overall, the campground is regarded as a special place that fosters family traditions and memorable experiences.

One of the most wonderful camping experiences. Hanging out with wild horses on the beach and having wild horses wander through our campsite were amazing. The rangers and volunteers were great. the scenery was awesome. A definite bucket list item.

It was my second time camping here, and I found this place to be like heaven. It's just a short walk from the beach, yet surrounded by beautiful trees and bushes, with soft sandy ground—simply the perfect spot for anyone who wants to be close to the ocean while enjoying nature.
I had a wonderful time. The only downside was the mosquitoes, which seem to be everywhere. Fortunately, once you're inside your tent, you're perfectly fine.
The park staff and rangers are incredibly welcoming and kind. They make you feel at home and ensure you have a comfortable stay.
I would definitely return here if I have the chance.

We were thankful to be able to camp among the wild horses. It was fun to see them be free and with their families. We had a fire during the day even though it was very hot to help with the bugs and the horses loved that to help them with the bugs ha! That was awesome! I wish the whole campsite was generator free. If we come back next time we will stay in loop B were it’s only tent sites to have a more natural camping experience. The mosquitoes and horse flies were brutal and the bug spray didn’t seem to help. We stayed by the fire or were in the water which was a nice relief. I think it forced us to be in the water more which was good for our soul. Overall, a memorable experience especially with the kids.

Campground was quaint and quiet. Horses were awesome to see up close and personal in our campsite. Beach was large, clean, not crowded, and beautiful. Beach being steps away from the campsite made it even better.
Thank you for a great experience.

We love it here but it’s hard to not see any enforcement regarding keeping a safe distance from the ponies. I saw one couple bring their big strong dog in a full lunge up to the ponies face at one of the showers. Unacceptable.

Great beach! You have to be prepared for traffic as people will stop in the middle of the road for horses instead of driving by. The horses were pretty aggressive with in the campground if you turn around a horse will be there to take your food. Horses are the equivalent to NJ seagulls watch out.
