Jr's Seafood is worth the drive. The beach is beautiful and quiet. Well worth it.

Assateague Island National Seashore Campground offers a beautiful and unique camping experience, highlighted by the presence of wild horses and scenic beaches. Many visitors appreciate the friendly staff, well-maintained sites, and the variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, kayaking, and exploring the natural surroundings. However, some concerns were raised about mosquito levels, restroom cleanliness, and noise disturbances, suggesting that campers should come prepared with insect repellent and be mindful of food storage to avoid attracting wildlife. Overall, the campground is regarded as a special place that fosters family traditions and memorable experiences.

We have been going to Assateague Island for over a decade and have had great trips every year. No matter what the weather is like, no matter which campsite we are in, no matter what the bugs and wildlife throw at us, it is always a trip that we will remember always. Our kids have grown up seeing this place each summer and I hope they eventually bring their families here. The rangers are the best, and the clean up crews are heroes....remember to thank them! We love to see and hear people follow the rules, keep the noise down, respect the animals, leave the dunes alone, and drive slowly. Its really a wonderful place for the whole family, and I am glad that we have this jewel of a park. Now come and see it for yourself!

Beautiful beach and camping area! Convenient location within the park to restock ice and firewood. Access to water spigot, cold water showers and pit toilets cleaned regularly. Saw a lot of wild ponies!

My favorite site. Close to the beach but also secluded.

This camping site is absolutely beautiful and an awesome place to experience the outdoors! The scenery is stunning and well worth the visit.
However, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Mosquitoes: Be prepared for mosquitoes, especially if your site isn't on higher ground near the beach where strong winds can help keep them away. This is particularly true during the summer months.
Facilities: During busy times, expect long lines for the showers. The bathrooms can also have a strong odor at times.
Sand management: Since you're camping directly on the sand, keeping it out of your tent can be a challenge. Even after rinsing off at the water station, you'll still need to walk across the sand to get back to your site. Consider bringing a small mat or brush to help manage this.
Overall, a gorgeous destination—just come prepared for these minor inconveniences!

Very fortunate to have gorgeous weather and someone even left behind a bundle of firewood! Oceanside campsite was very nice and convenient -- was able to park right at this site. Will bring a thicker camping pad next time (sand is NOT that soft!)

A lot of aggressive bitting insects. Limited washing/ showering facilities to accommodated campers. I understand the focus is on horses but some upgrades are needed to make stays for visitors more welcoming. Beach and property is very nice.

I only camped overnight so don’t have much to review. The campsite was spacious and clean and quiet. I awoke to horses grazing next to my van which was lovely. The boardwalk provided many bird and horse sightings. I wish I had more time and I plan on returning.
