Assateague Island National Seashore Campground offers a beautiful and unique camping experience, highlighted by the presence of wild horses and scenic beaches. Many visitors appreciate the friendly staff, well-maintained sites, and the variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, kayaking, and exploring the natural surroundings. However, some concerns were raised about mosquito levels, restroom cleanliness, and noise disturbances, suggesting that campers should come prepared with insect repellent and be mindful of food storage to avoid attracting wildlife. Overall, the campground is regarded as a special place that fosters family traditions and memorable experiences.

Beautiful! Perfect campsite near the water with easy access to the bathrooms & showers. Comfortable temps in late June.

Really beautiful experience, although we had a severe weather storm the first night. Definitely make sure you have the right tent stakes and some sand bags for severe wind! We will never camp without them again.

Very nice location. Overall clean and well maintained. As usual, the Ponies make it extra special. Would be nice if there were solar powered lights on motion detectors in latrine and showered in the campgrounds.

We camped with another family and our 5-year old kids in June. The campsite was great, and right on the beach. Bathrooms were in good shape with showers available. You gotta go through a few campsites when walking the grounds, but #45 isn't a on a throughway to anything.

A LOOP WAS LOVELY even with the thunderstorm that rolled in my kids and I had a lovely time. We rented bikes and saw the horses up close as they passed us and then traversed the boardwalk over the bay for egrets herons and more. Definitely recommend coming here. Facilites were well maintained and respected.

Seeing the horses up close was amazing!!!!! Yes, we read the guidelines about not baiting them in or trying to get close to them. We actually retreated to the car when they came into our campsite and there was nothing left out for them to eat. But, they hung out and even put their faces on the windows of our car to look at us every morning and every evening.
We also got to experience a “traffic stop” while heading to the visitor center when some of the horses decided to check out every car that wanted to pass on the road. Sure was glad to see the park ranger arrive and give directions for how to get past them safely!
Enjoyed being on the beach and having the horses come out to explore while we were there. Followed our “beach neighbor’s” lead and waded out into the ocean when the horses arrived to avoid disturbing them. Thankful to have someone close by who obviously had some experience with what to do.
Got to see a goal and its parents on our last morning there when the family wandered through our campsite.
We will definitely be returning and staying longer next time. Possibly earlier in the year or later in the fall when it will be a little cooler. Definitely a worthwhile trip!

Life of the Marsh and Life of the Forest trails are very nice, especially in the early morning. Paddling kayaks out to Big Egging Island was a great way to see the marsh and bay creatures. We stayed in the Bayside Campground Loop B which was nice and we appreciated the no generator policy on this loop. Campground was well maintained and clean. Cold showers only in the bathhouse.
