Assateague Island National Seashore Campground offers a beautiful and unique camping experience, highlighted by the presence of wild horses and scenic beaches. Many visitors appreciate the friendly staff, well-maintained sites, and the variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, kayaking, and exploring the natural surroundings. However, some concerns were raised about mosquito levels, restroom cleanliness, and noise disturbances, suggesting that campers should come prepared with insect repellent and be mindful of food storage to avoid attracting wildlife. Overall, the campground is regarded as a special place that fosters family traditions and memorable experiences.

Campground was wonderful. Pad was level, restrooms very clean with no odors. Ponies came thru campsites often looking for food.
Would stay here again.

We recently stayed at the Assateague Island National Seashore Group Campground, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience!
The campground itself was nice, open, and very clean. While the facilities feature non-flushable vault toilets, they were kept well-maintained, clean, and we had zero issues using them during our stay.
The highlight of our trip was definitely the wildlife and the atmosphere. We had a beautiful full moon night that lit up the entire seashore, which was stunning. To make things even more magical, two of the famous wild horses visited us right inside our campground in the evening, and a few more joined them nearby in the early morning. Seeing them up close in their natural habitat was unforgettable.
We loved our time here so much that we are already planning to visit again for a two-night stay next time. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an incredible coastal camping adventure!

Assateague is a great place. I wish the Federal side had electric and heated showers. But, with that said, it is a great experience to camp with the horses. A beautiful location.

Incredible escape in nature! We had a very private camping site where we pitched our tent for the night, and during the day we lounged on the beach where we saw numerous horses. Greatly appreciate how clean the beach is and how the focus remains on nature and the wild horses rather than the consumerism found at most beaches nowadays.
