Assateague Island National Seashore Campground offers a beautiful and unique camping experience, highlighted by the presence of wild horses and scenic beaches. Many visitors appreciate the friendly staff, well-maintained sites, and the variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, kayaking, and exploring the natural surroundings. However, some concerns were raised about mosquito levels, restroom cleanliness, and noise disturbances, suggesting that campers should come prepared with insect repellent and be mindful of food storage to avoid attracting wildlife. Overall, the campground is regarded as a special place that fosters family traditions and memorable experiences.

Loved just about everything about Assateague. Really enjoyed the beach, the horses and Chincoteague too.

Beach camping can be thrilling, exhausting, terrifying. Sand. Wind. The struggle is real. But the rewards — wild ponies, dolphins, friendly neighbors having the same experiences trying to get the freaking tent up is well worth it. We were at Oceanside #9 which is convenient to boardwalk, overlook, water and toilets. Site is well-maintained. We will keep coming back.

Beautiful campground. In the fall the ponies are on the bay side, don’t let them scare you if you must use facilities in middle of night! Beach is beautiful, bike path was enjoyed.

Our family had an amazing experience with the oceanside camping at Assateague! Beautiful views, direct beach access, spacious sites, short distance to restrooms/showers, & all around pure outdoor relaxation! We look forward to our next camping trip w/the kiddos!

Just a big thank you to the handful of rangers who were on hand during the shut down...thank you for keeping everything clean and orderly!

Bucket list National Seashore
Dry camping at its best, there are two oceanside loops with paved sites that allow restricted generator use and several bay side loops with no generators allowed. There are also several loops of walk-in sites. All loops have a number of large sites, and we easily fit our 45’ and toad on site 20.
Disclosure, you may have a site 100 yards from the ocean, but the protective dunes shelter you from the winds and block your oceanfront view. Many of the bay side sites have excellent views.
The wild horses roam freely, and you will see them frequently during the day.
Great bike riding if you don’t mind head/tail winds!
We had an excellent dinner at Blacksmith in Berlin, and picked up dockside fresh seafood at Sea Born Seafood in Ocean City.

Our eight day stay passed too quickly, but that is what happens when surrounded by beauty. We live full-time in our rig. If our wanderings bring us close to this part of the country, we will most certainly stay again.
