Assateague Island National Seashore Campground offers a beautiful and unique camping experience, highlighted by the presence of wild horses and scenic beaches. Many visitors appreciate the friendly staff, well-maintained sites, and the variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, kayaking, and exploring the natural surroundings. However, some concerns were raised about mosquito levels, restroom cleanliness, and noise disturbances, suggesting that campers should come prepared with insect repellent and be mindful of food storage to avoid attracting wildlife. Overall, the campground is regarded as a special place that fosters family traditions and memorable experiences.

We’ve been camping here for years. It can be tough to camp with the winds and rain, but at least the ponies are getting smarter on how to get into coolers. Lol

The park experience was just what we expected, but we had camper problems and it was very windy, so we left after the first night. However, the park was clean and nice, and everything we expected. It was very dog-friendly and everyone was being cool with keeping them on their leash, which we appreciate since our dog is scared of other dogs.

Definitely chilly even in late April. Excellent visitor center. Well maintained camping site and facilities. Clean bathrooms. Shaded site. Great spaces for kids and dogs to explore. Saw horses every day, including one that hung by our site for quite awhile.
Main complaint - generators. I know they’re allowed but they are very loud. Thank goodness for quiet hours.

The wind was crazy and eventually our tent collapsed and we lost the wee shelter that we sit in during the day. But it was exciting and dramatic. I camp so that I can experience the elements and I certainly did this time.

I've been coming to this park for years and never have I had so many interactions with rude, unreasonable park rangers. Started when my son showed up to my site with a third vehicle. All three vehicles fit on the asphalt, not encroaching into the road or touching the grass. The hatch was up and doors open, we were clearly unpacking. He was not friendly at all told us one vehicle had to go. We continued unloading two small children, a dog, and camping gear and supplies for a two week stay. We had to stop for nearly an hour because the horses kept coming by. The ranger came back to our site and walked in unannounced, upsetting our dog, and told us we've been written up twice, even though this was only his second visit, and threatened to call law enforcement if the vehicle wasn't moved. I wish I could have gotten his name but he stormed off without any interest in what we had to say about the issue. Then, my son went to the office to talk to someone about what happened and the people there were totally uncaring. They told him he had ten minutes to unload. I've looked through the rules and the only mention I see about ten minutes is for securing food. All food was secure both times the ranger came to our site. They also told him flashers must be on while unloading, which is totally made up. Then, the day I was packing up to leave, a different ranger stopped and told me my 125cc scooter was violating the three vehicle rule. Strange how this has not been an issue with any of my previous visits and was not a problem until the last day of my 2 week stay. I'm not interested in catering to anyone's fragile ego or abiding by made up rules. Its state side for us from now on.

This was an amazing family vacation spot! We loved seeing the horses and fishing on the beach. Spring was a great time to visit before the rush of people and bugs!

The campsites are level, well-maintained and spacious. The horses did not disappoint, showing up daily on the beach, in the parking lots, and rummaging through the campground. The bike trails were also well-managed, and we had a great time all over the park.

This year was our second visiting Assateague Island. It is such a beautiful spot! We were able to see 3 new foals born during our week long visit. I love early spring, no bugs, warm days and cool nights....Loop 1 Oceanside is awesome and we plan to return for sure!
