Assateague Island National Seashore Campground offers a beautiful and unique camping experience, highlighted by the presence of wild horses and scenic beaches. Many visitors appreciate the friendly staff, well-maintained sites, and the variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, kayaking, and exploring the natural surroundings. However, some concerns were raised about mosquito levels, restroom cleanliness, and noise disturbances, suggesting that campers should come prepared with insect repellent and be mindful of food storage to avoid attracting wildlife. Overall, the campground is regarded as a special place that fosters family traditions and memorable experiences.

We stayed on the bay side in out camper and had a great spot, it felt very private. Our neighbors were very respectful and everyone respected the quiet time from 10pm-6am. There was a lot of wildlife from horses and rabbits to deer. There was a beautiful scenic walkway over the bay not far from our campsite.

This is always a fantastic place to stya, unfortunately it never faisl that some people refuse to follow the rules or simply do not understand them. saw a neighbors trash get attacked by gulls early int he morning, after horses raided their dinner because they wanted to eat in the dark for some reason.

Magical as seeing an Assateaque pony with her foal that was born that morning. I hate to leave a rave review as I dont want too many people knowing its wonder but this truly a gem of a place.

Finding the campsite was a little challenging and the shortest path is through another campsite. There were some flies, but not as many as on the beach! The horses came by once to steal food but mostly left us alone. I recommend bringing a beach cart for equipment. Not a bad location and I could still see the beach from a distance from my tent.

Camping at assateague was great. Sunset, moonrise, and sunrise were beautiful. Saw horses and dolphins at sunrise on the beach! There were a TON of mosquitoes at the campsite (bayside) but after spraying 40% deet bug spray they were not a problem.

We took our children and grandsons for a week of camping on ocean side. Spent time at the beach fishing, crabbing, clamming and quality time together. I bought us all sun shirts (which helped tremendously), sun screen and bug spray is another must. Even though most of us got alot of sun, we had a wonderful trip.

I was on site C39 and because it was located by the restrooms, several rude people kept cutting through my campsite to get to the restrooms. You need to put up some basic fencing on that site to keep people from cutting through.

One dune back from the ocean, campsites are close together here but it's worth it for the beach proximity and the sea breeze helps with bugs

I wanted to camp alone this summer for the experience, and I love Assatauge Island. I had a Oceanside site and it was perfect! The site was spacious and there was a table with a cubbie to put my cooler away so the pony's wouldn't raid it! I had plenty of neighbors so I felt safe. There was a lovely ocean breeze that kept it cool and comfortable. At Assatauge it gets dark at night. I mean true darkness. The stars were vibrant and pleantiful! I kept the fly off of my tent, it was a clear night. I couldn't fall asleep because the star gazzing is next level. I didn't want to miss a thing. This something I don't get to do very often because of all the light polution in my area. I didn't experience mosquitos at the site and on the beach because of the ocean breeze blowing inland. When you go to your car or to the bathroom and showers you are whats on the menu! With that said but bring the deet!
