What Guests Are Saying
Greenbelt Campground offers a great location close to Washington D.C., providing a peaceful, forested setting with well-maintained sites and convenient access to amenities. Many visitors appreciate the clean campsites, hot water in showers, and helpful staff, making it a good choice for camping near the city. However, some guests noted that the bathroom facilities could use improvements in cleanliness and maintenance. Overall, it’s recommended for its affordability and accessibility to both urban and natural attractions.

We used our stay here to visit Washington DC on a budget. Overall the campground was very good. We stayed in C loop and the bathrooms (at least the toilets and sinks) were cleaned every day. That is one of the most important things to me. The site was okay. It was rough in some spots and there were roots/tree stumps around but it served its purpose. We did not see anyone that works there at all. I do wish that they would give some information about locations to buy firewood in the area. That was very challenging to find. Other campers were quiet and courteous for the most part. There was one tent where the couple fought one evening. We also had something minor taken from our campsite while we were out one day, but of course that could happen anywhere. Overall a great option if you are visiting the city and one that we will do again.

Location is conveniently close to Washington, DC. My campsite was fine. There seemed to be only one women’s shower in Loop B and it was pretty gross. I only stayed one night; not sure I’d want to stay longer.

The camping is 25 minutes drive to DC and not far from a metro parking (5USD a day I was told). Facility was generally clean, but some (most) sites have very small areas to put the tents. We started at B but C is much more quiet as tents only and therefore no generators. There was some waste around the site. Bottom line, camping is economic and practical and even rather under-crowded but it does not have the experience of other recreation.gov campings as some visitors don't seem to come for purely recreation proposes. The ranger is great!
