There was too much poison ivy in the campground, I couldn't walk my dog without fear that the dog, then me would get poison ivy.

The smell from the vault toilet was overpowering when we set up camp. We mentioned it to the staff and they did something that resolved the issue. Not much separation from other sites, so you can hear talking/snoring/etc.

Surrounded in poison ivy, but otherwise a nice site. You can hear the waves from the lake. Did not work well for camping with a dog with all of the poison ivy.

We have been coming to D.H. Day campground every year for the last 28 years, we tent camped 20 of those years, we love the area!
Years ago they went through and cleaned up all of the sites, put new wood borders, cut the brush back, etc. Since then it has slowly been deteriorating.
We now have a camper and it would be nice if they would go back through and clean up but also add electricity! Currently they have an area that you can have a generator but but most of the sites in that area are not big enough for a camper.

The campground was excellent. The only issue that we had were neighbors in a camper, who played music rather audibly, and who watched a movie until rather late at night. But that was only a mild annoyance. I suppose you have to put up with that sometimes when you are camping. I think they had been there for a while and, when you’re at a campsite for a while, here, use technology to keep things interesting, I suppose. The rest of us are only there for maybe two or three days and we prefer the Sounds of Nature. But, I digress. The campground is very well managed and beautiful and within very close proximity to the beach. I found it to be dog friendly, and everybody was very kind. The site was also very close to the dune climb and many hiking trails. Stopping off at the ranger station when you check into the site is fantastic because the Ranger explains many aspects of camping in the park and the surrounding areas. I found that very helpful and a really good orientation to the area. The best part of our particular site was that the actual pad where you could set up your tent, where you sleep, was separated by a little trail from the campfire area and the picnic table. That was so nice and the first time I have camped in a spot like that. I’m not sure of all the sites are like that, but ours was. We really thought that was super sweet. And, the pad where you pitch your tent was relatively smooth. I would totally camp there again. I highly recommend this campground.

Sleeping Bear Dunes campground is my favorite for camping. Its consistently enjoyable, as campsites are wooded and not too close. You have access to Lake Michigan by walking trails directly from the campground. The dunes and various hiking trails provide variety and a good workout. Nothing better than hearing coyotes howling at night and owls calling. Quiet most of the time and always during quiet hours. Staff are very helpful and available when you need them.

Our first experience camping in MI was absolutely great. DH Camp is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Leelanau. The beach, Sleeping Bear dunes, and everything along M22 is breathtaking. The camp was clean, easy to find, well organized for campers.

Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy is abundant at the campground and throughout the lakeshore. Tent pads and campsite driveways are kept clear of poison ivy. However there may be poison ivy lining the boundary of the campsite.
