M-22 will be closed from 8:30 am to approximately 2 pm between the City of Frankfort and Esch Road.To avoid road closures, arriving campers should not arrive before the scheduled check-in time of 2 pm.To avoid road closures, departing campers should exit by 8:30 am via Deadstream Road, Platte Road, or M-22 northbound. Southbound M-22 will be closed.

We try to visit Platte River Campground for two weeks every Fall, but making reservations is a real hassle, and getting worse every year! Once we arrive everything is Good. This year we were on Lot 203 (a very nice lot) right next to the Hosts. Ron and Kim Carlisle are second generation Hosts and are fantastic people and neighbors.

We love this campground! There is the Beauty of Lake Michigan, the Platte River and miles of hiking trails!

It is a very large complex. The walk-up sites are very nice, and relatively private, though they can require carrying camping equipment around 1/4 mile (400 meters). I enjoyed that aspect, but for certain groups or families it may be a logistical hurdle. There are sites elsewhere in the Platte River area where one can park a car directly at the site.
The bathroom, shower, and camp sink facility building for the walk-up sites was very clean and well-maintained, though there seems to be just one shower for the roughly 25-30 walk-up sites.

Well run camp with beautiful trails including Lake Michigan shoreline. Sites at very spacious and laid out to allow privacy and natural area. Glen arbor and Empire towns have knotty pine taverns with wonderful food. Be sure to go “dune climbing” - the views are incredible.

One of our favorite campgrounds. We prefer the space & quiet of loop 4, especially the prohibition of generators. So many things to do like hiking, birding, biking, miles of beach, canoeing. Great home base for all of Benzie & Leelanau counties. Our favorites are the Canning Factory housing old boats, the Lighthouse, exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes, Pyramid Point, a meal at the Cove in Leland, overlooking the spillway, Lake Michigan & Fishtown.

Easy walk to the beach. Nice canoe or kayak ride down the Platte River. Be aware that some parts of the park are not open every day into the fall.

From the east (Traverse City): Take State Highway M-72 west to Empire. Turn south on State Highway M-22. Proceed 10 miles 16 km) (and turn right on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.
From the south (US-31/M-115): At the junction of U.S. Route 31 and M-115, continue north for seven miles (11 km). Turn left on Platte Road. Proceed five miles and turn right on M-22. Proceed one mile (1.6 km) and turn left on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.

- Entrance Fees - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore charges a variety of entrance fees, depending on how a visitor arrives at the park. All visitors must have an entrance pass (separate from camping fees). The park also honors Federal Recreational Lands America the Beautiful (e.g., Resident Annual, Non-Resident Annual, Senior, Access, Military, 4th Grade, Golden Age). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. The Michigan Recreation Passport is not valid for entry at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a federally managed site.
