M-22 will be closed from 8:30 am to approximately 2 pm between the City of Frankfort and Esch Road.To avoid road closures, arriving campers should not arrive before the scheduled check-in time of 2 pm.To avoid road closures, departing campers should exit by 8:30 am via Deadstream Road, Platte Road, or M-22 northbound. Southbound M-22 will be closed.

The campground was clean, site was spacious. The walking trail to Lake Michigan was a nice touch, even though the sand is very thick it was a nice 1 mile + hike.

Excellent campground, we tent camp. There are clean bathrooms with two showers in each bathhouse. We showered between 6-7 and never had to wait. Spots are all in wooded areas. There is a trail to Lake Michigan behind the campground. Staff is extremely helpful. We have been coming 29 years with friends and we are now excited to be sharing it with our young children.

We always enjoy our time at this campground. Sites are private enough. Staff is excellent and bathrooms are cleaned at least daily. I was happy to see firewood bundles this year. The only negative was the amount of campers who felt justified bringing dogs that yapped or barked constantly, howled repeatedly, or barked at every single passerby. Seriously, if your dog is going to be an audio nuisance, find a doggy day care and be quiet neighbors.

We LOVE THIS CAMPGROUNDS!!! Sites are ENORMOUS and private. Restrooms and showers are IMMACULATE, plus super-easy, nearby access to Platte River and Lake Michigan Fun. Our second year staying and DEF returning next year.

Stayed in site 306 for a week. The site is nice and level. Closest to the bathroom which mean more foot traffic but convenient. The bathroom/showers were nice. The only recommendation I would give would be to have the cleaning times on a posted schedule. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason when they would clean which was a bit of a problem at times. We had a 25 day trip and this was one week of that 25 days. This park was by far the best camping of the entire trip. The state parks were all very crowded and small unlevel and unpacked sites. We would stay here again.

From the east (Traverse City): Take State Highway M-72 west to Empire. Turn south on State Highway M-22. Proceed 10 miles 16 km) (and turn right on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.
From the south (US-31/M-115): At the junction of U.S. Route 31 and M-115, continue north for seven miles (11 km). Turn left on Platte Road. Proceed five miles and turn right on M-22. Proceed one mile (1.6 km) and turn left on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.

- Entrance Fees - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore charges a variety of entrance fees, depending on how a visitor arrives at the park. All visitors must have an entrance pass (separate from camping fees). The park also honors Federal Recreational Lands America the Beautiful (e.g., Resident Annual, Non-Resident Annual, Senior, Access, Military, 4th Grade, Golden Age). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. The Michigan Recreation Passport is not valid for entry at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a federally managed site.
