Platte River Campground

Awesome experience camping at Platte River Campground! Lots to do, like hiking trails, scenic vehicle tour, and the Cherry Festival in Traverse City! Also, we appreciated that they had more than 1 fill up/dumping station in the park! Thank you for the wonderful stay-we will sure be back in the near future!

We spent one night at Platte River Campground. We love how wooded the campground is. We can see why there were a lot of people there on a week day. The bathrooms are clean and the showers have hot water. Our site 116 has the picnic table way up a hill so we didn’t use it. But overall the campground is great just not our site. If in the area again I would stay here again but in different site.

Expansive lakeshore with opportunities to hike, kayak, bike, and relax. Great campground, welcoming and helpful staff. Look forward to returning!

We love it here. Loop 4 is very quiet and the sites are large and private.

We always love our stay each year. I really miss the walk in sites though, when we waited all night to get a site. Reserving a site has become so difficult and competitive. So discouraging. How are you being sure we are not competing against computers for sites. I found another site that will get site at national parks for a fee. How is that fair? I really think you should look into it.
Oh and there was a (Mexican lady) a staff person cleaning that was so kind and helpful to us, answering our questions about the park. We very much appreciated her kindness.

Platte river is one of our favorite campgrounds. The sites are all spacious and private. The bath houses are always clean.

Beautiful campsites in the woods and near hiking trails. Easy to use tent, driveway and fire areas. Plenty of room. Very helpful and friendly forest service staff. Bath areas cleaned daily. One forester used a leaf blower to keep the the acorn on our driveway. away from our big puppy who would not stop easting them! Close to Lake Park. Great for swimming, watching the sunset and hanging out next to the lake. Between the campground and Glen Harbor are plenty of beaches for people and dogs. The water is clear and refreshing, Many beaches are sandy. Great historical sites plus a tourist shops in Glan Harbor. The Manitou Restaurant and the St. Ambrose Cellars great places to eat and enjoy yourself!

The walk in was a beautiful camp site, but it was a long ways from the parking and bathrooms. Too far to honest, would definitely not stay at one that far away again. The campground itself was fine and we enjoyed our time, and our bear box was right on site, but the bear box for some of the sites was shared with other campers and/or too far away from the sites; each site needs its own bear box and it needs to be right at the camp site not 200' away. The bathrooms were fine and showers were great, but there are only 2 of them for the whole of the walk-in area and that meant you sometimes had to wait in a long line to get in. The hike to the beach is nice but it is fairly long, when you just want to get to the beach and back easily (not super convenient if you forget something).

We left the campground on our 2 nd day (Tues.) to go into Benzonia to the grocery store ( we have an RV you like an over sized van so we have to drive it to go anywhere. Our paper was still on the pole out front showing we leave on Wed. But when we got back someone took our bundle of wood which was by the picnic table took the wood but left the plastic strap lying on the ground. Really nice of someone. Took the office people but they said well you didn’t leave any chairs out? No just bought $60. Chairs that Rock they would of been gone too. So don’t leave anything out!!
