Bay Furnace Campground offers a beautiful, quiet setting with large, private sites and well-maintained facilities, making it an excellent base for exploring the Munising and Pictured Rocks area. Visitors appreciate the clean bathrooms and friendly hosts, along with easy access to Lake Superior's sandy beach and the historic Bay Furnace site. While some noted issues with road conditions and occasional noise, many expressed a desire to return due to the campground's overall appeal and recreational opportunities.

The recent campground hosts are not available when you need them. There's 3 camping units and no one ever around to help. The campsites have cleaned firepits but never raked and the pit toilets are gross.
There used to be a host by the water that was outside, on their golf cart, available when you needed help when you knocked on their door. This trip when I finally got some answers, it was 3 days later. It's really weird.

Super nice campground…probably the best “dry camping” site I have ever stayed. Lots of privacy and a good combination of sites with shade or sun. I selected site 31 to take advantage of the sun for the RV solar system. Also, the dump station and fresh water fill station was very good. Lastly, the CG was newly paved…it was awesome.

We were there for 10 days. We have often used Bay Furnace as our base for enjoying the U.P.
This time we have rated it as just "Good". There were very noisy neighbors who didn't care that their children wandered into our site area and were not using "camping voices" even after Quiet Time.
The bathrooms were minimally taken care of; the men's nearest our site did not have the floor swept or mopped the whole time we were there (yuck!)--and I know this because the same scraps of t-paper that were on the floor on day one were still there on day 10. The women's had someone defecate on the floor and it wasn't until we sought out and informed the host that it was cleaned (a day later--by the DNR person, not the host). We have been to other Hiawatha campgrounds' toilets that were inspected and thoroughly cleaned each morning.
Hopefully this was an anomaly and we will be pleased with our next experience at a Recreation.gov campsite.

Bay Furnace campground is a great place to stay when in the Munising/Pictured Rocks area. We've stayed here several times and the sites are large and quite private. We love coming here. The bathrooms are clean. The grounds are well kept and the campground is quiet, except for some road noise for sites near M-28. The Bay Furnace is interesting to visit and is a quick walk from the camp sites. Lake Superior has a nice sandy beach, although some rocks in the water. Site 42 is where we were this time and it is a good sized site, close to the bathrooms.

This is a great campsite. Clean, quiet, right on Lake Superior. We had a wondeful time. The camp hosts were amazing!

Loved the paved roads, the historical blast furnace, and the opportunity to camp along Lake Superior is amazing.

Private site near all of the activities of Munising. It was exactly as advertised.
