The Lower Hurricane campground is close to the shore of Superior. We were lucky enough to experience powerful waves and a sun set over the water.

Hurricane River Campground is praised for its beautiful location near Lake Superior, with clean facilities and well-maintained sites that offer privacy. Campers enjoy the easy access to hiking trails, pristine beaches, and the soothing sound of waves. However, many reviews mention issues with mosquitoes and the need for better campground management, including the presence of hosts and clearer information. Overall, it’s seen as a lovely spot, especially for hikers and nature lovers.

SIte 10 was great. Slight road noise from the highway when a vehicle went past but it's not too busy of a road so it didn't happen that often. We loved this campground. Buy firewood before you leave Munising or just outside town- we didn't realize it wasn't sold at the campground and had to drive 10 mi back towards town to get some. Cleanest pit toilets I've ever seen and there was a park employee who came to clean 2 of the 3 days we were there (they might have been there the 3rd day too but we just were not at the campsite when they were cleaning).

We camped at the end of August. Beautiful setting and very secluded campsites in upper campground. Overcast skies, warmer temperatures and the absence of any possible breeze made it a little uncomfortable. Would love to see a shower house and restroom facilities to accommodate both upper and lower campground visitors. Keep the sites rustic and to allow generator use.

Beautiful site. Love how easy it was to get to the lake and the river near by. I would like to stay in the lower campground next time.

Perfect location, no issue here with poison ivy or ticks, bugs were minimal, the bathrooms were in rough shape but considering it was labor day weekend there was likely more than normal usage.
