Hurricane River Campground is praised for its beautiful location near Lake Superior, with clean facilities and well-maintained sites that offer privacy. Campers enjoy the easy access to hiking trails, pristine beaches, and the soothing sound of waves. However, many reviews mention issues with mosquitoes and the need for better campground management, including the presence of hosts and clearer information. Overall, it’s seen as a lovely spot, especially for hikers and nature lovers.

First thing camping with my wife. Was very grateful that I got reservation last minute online.
Camping site is very nice. Very easy to find. Very close to the shore even though it was the upper campground. Very quiet and dark at night.
Only negative I can think of is the vault bathrooms could be a little cleaner but no regrets. We got our rustic camping experience. Definitely will come back again.
Plenty of things to do. You can drive to grand marais. Go hike the north country trail. Swim at the many beaches along the shoreline. See the log slide.

This was a great place - we enjoyed the hike to the lighthouse and the private spot. The beach was perfect with the best sunsets we've seen in awhile.

Beautiful and well kept campground. Very easy access to the North Country Trail with lots of beautiful views. Watching the Hurricane River swell after a rain and pour into Superior was really cool.

Loved this campground. Sites are large and semi-private. It is not on the lake (if you want lake access, choose the lower campground), but that keeps it quiet and uncrowded. Its worth noting that this area is about 20 mi from any of the pictured rocks hikes, but there are several other interesting hikes around and it is close to the North Country trail. No cell recepion here at all. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here.

Such a wonderful site! Do remember to bring in your own firewood and water as they won't be available in the campground.
