If you're trying to decide what group site to book, this one is attached to the historic hiking trail. It does have a swimming area, but it's not as "beachy" as the other group site.
Still, our family has stayed at this group site for two years (this year in June and last year on Labor Day weekend), and we've had an amazing time. Mid-June had some bugs, but the clearing is big enough where it's not unbearable, as long as you have some bug spray.
You can bike ride to the beach, but make sure you bring a bike carrier for your smaller kids! It's too long of a trek for them to ride their own bike.
We ended up bringing some acrylic paint pens and made our own hiking sticks, painted rocks, painted leaves, etc. It was a blast when the kids were getting bored!

Absolutely loved this campground. Only negative was the sandy gravel in the campsite. Would prefer a little grass. Way too dusty.
