What Guests Are Saying
Twelvemile Beach Campground and Cabin is praised for its stunning scenery, well-maintained facilities, and friendly hosts, making it a favorite among visitors. Clean bathrooms, beautiful sunsets, and easy access to the beach enhance the overall experience. While some noted challenges like biting flies and limited water access for campers, these did not overshadow the campground's charm and potential for a peaceful getaway.

1. Please note that Google Maps has seperate locations for Twelvemile Beach (actual beach) and Twelvemile Beach Campground. If you search for the wrong thing, you become faced with an extremely difficult situation. My wife and I blindly followed map and the "roads" caused much tension and tested our nerves. We thought the paths were just rugged, but they wound up not being real paths at all. We were fortunate and happy to get out of the situation unscathed with our marriage in tact. Please note, I am very aware that this falls under user (my) error and my wife will remind me about it for the rest of time. It is comical now, however, I still think it unwise to have Google Maps show a route for vehicle to get to the beach front.
2. I did not fully comprehend how rugged the campground would be. I was expecting some sort of ranger station to check into, or even just a little information shack to pick up a pamphlet about the campground. When we arrived, it was dark, and we were dissapointed by the lack of signage and overall clarity of what was going on. We were also surprised that there was no station to purchase firewood, and found it annoying that we had to improvise in the dark.
3. It was a very rainy weekend and the campsite was just a mess. The campsite/campground had very poor drainage and sloppy conditions across the campground. We wound up not staying both nights and finding a nearby motel.
4. (and maybe the only real constructive criticism) I found the potholes across the campground to be annoying. Maybe it was because we had just traversed the wilderness, but with a bike rack and full car of gear, it was terrible to drive through and watch everything in the car rattle around.
5. All of this is circumstantial and on us as campers. We're softies. We thought it was a really cool location. We loved being so close to the lake! I'm quite sure that if the weather was better and we had arrived two hours earlier, our experience would have been amazing!

Twelvemile is one of the best camping places in Michigan, and is very popular. I was lucky enough to book a site in advance for the dates I wanted. However, the new reservation system shuts out people who can't plan months in advance since it's booked solid.

This was a magnificent place to dry camp. We had site 12. My only complaint is with the reservation system. There is no phone on site and no cell coverage in the area. We drove in and checked out the site that would accommodate our 25 foot RV. Then we had to drive 8 miles down the road to make the reservation. If this had been like other Michigan state parks, there would have been a phone on site to make the reservation.

The campground was easy to find! The site was clean!! We were in the No Generator area and loved it.. Our solar panels had enough light even in the trees to keep us going!! The only draw back was that the map of the sites was not to scale and our site to park our small travel trailer was barley big enough.. We will be back!!!

Had a fantastic time and hope to go again sometime. Our site was 31 and 32 and I think those are definitely the best because of the proximity to the lake and remoteness of location.

Beautiful beach steps away from the campground. Campsites nicely wooded and sufficiently far away from next door campers. Loved our stay.

Excellent, scenic campsites. Unfortunately, the latrines were terrible -- dirty, no toilet paper, littered, water access difficult. I have seen latrines in wilderness areas that have been better.
